My father was John LONG. His father was J. Walter LONG, Jr. His father was J. Walter LONG, Sr. His father was Maples P. LONG. His father was Maples LONG. His father was the Rev. George LONG, I. His father was John LONG, I. John LONG, I was originally from Pennsylvania (lived for a time in Bedford County, Virginia) and died in the northern part of Sevier County (near Flat Creek) sometime after the Revolutionary War. He was one of the incorporators of Providence Baptist Church. He is buried in the Long Cemetery in the northern part of Sevier County. MASTIN, Thomas White (1799) from South Carolina married Jemima Hoyle (d. Rev. John Hoyle) and settled near Athens, McMinn Co., TN in the early 1800's. All of his sons served for the Confederacy in the Civil War. After the Civil War all of the brothers moved from Tennessee to KCMO. Thomas' ancestors include John Marston, Sr., 1700; John Marston, Jr., 1720; and son William Mastin, 1745; and Major Reuben Mastin, ~1770. Also, John Blackwell Marston brother Reuben Mastin/Maston. John Jerome Mastin, son of TWM came to Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO prior to the Civil War and operated the "Mastin Bank" in KCMO. The brothers include: John Jerome Mastin, Reuben F. Mastin, Thomas Hoyl Mastin, David Clark Mastin and William Wheeler Mastin. Two of his brothers married the "Harris sisters." Several of the brothers and nephews and nieces were prominent in KCMO business and politics. Later Thomas A. Mastin was the JACOMO county prosecutor in the early 1900's. I have been told that my great grandfather, Urile J. Cates, went to Texas via the "orphan train". I am not familar with that term. Is there a listing of passengers, places the train originated and destinations? I think he was a young adult and may have been married to Callie Watson at the time. Maybe he met her on the train! Urile was born in McMinn County TN in 1865, married Callie and they raised four boys in Texas starting around 1887. Sometime before 1887 he left TN for TX. Both are buried in Texas. I am not sure where Callie was born or who either of their parents were.

Searching for any information on CLARENCE BERRY, born about 1920 in Athens, TN. Listed in 1950 Chattanooga City Directory as living on East Terrace and working at Herron Stove Works. He also worked at a nursing home. Had a daughter in November of 1951 with Ruby Rose from Soddy. One family story says he died of gangrene in frostbitten feet, another says he drowned in Soddy Lake. He died/disappeared sometime between 1955 and 1960. His mother's name was Betty and he had at least one sister.

If it is available, could you please check census information for 1820, 1830, or 1840 to find a CRAZE family? We have tracked this family to DeKalb County, Alabama in 1850. The family probably moved there from McMinn County or Bledsoe County, TN. By the time of the Alabama listings, the father is apparently deceased. It is information on him that we would like to have (his name could have been John).. The wife's name is Lucy, born in 1795. The children are James (my g-grandfather), born 1818 in Tennessee; John, born 1821 in Tennessee; Elizabeth, born December 1823 in Tennessee; Margaret, born May 1829 in Tennessee; and Louisa, born 1831. The last name is CRAZE and is probably listed as such, but it could have been listed as CRASE or CRAISE or CRAYS or KRAISE.

Looking for information on the following: Josiah MARKHAM, b. 1801 in Knox County, died 5/13/1841 in McMinn County. His son, Eli Wilson MARKHAM, born 12/11/1835 in or around Knoxville. Eli Wilson MARKHAM married Nancy PENNINGTON. Nancy is the daughter of Able Lane PENNINGTON and Rebecca Ester NORTON. Revecca Ester NORTON was born in 1813 in either North or South Carolina. Her parents are John NORTON and Ester GLASS.

My great-grandfather was a LEDBETTER that was supposed to have married a full blood Cherokee indian. My grandmother, BIRTIE LEDBETTER, one of their childern, married JOHN HICKS, they lived in McMinnville, Tennessee before moving to Texas. Their daughter, MARTHA IDA HICKS, was born November 20, 1924 and married WILLIAM MACK TAYLOR, in Houston Texas, August 16, 1948.
