Abstract from Bob Barker Civil War research David Anthony Cline Minor's pension 94982 Private, Co., K, 12 Tenn Cav., Union Army Vols, enlisted Mar. 30, 1864 at Madisonville and dying in General Hospital No. 8, Nashville on Jan. 28, 1865 of chronic and acute pneumonia. Married: Caroline Ledbetter on Aug. 20, 1840 in Macon Co., at Franklin, NC. Children: Nancy Cline born Sep. 17, 1853 David B. May 18, 1859 Caroline Dec. 7, 1861 Re-married: Caroline Cline, the widow, had remarried on June 15, 1866 to David Martin in McMinn Co., Tn Guardian: Wm. B. Armstrong of Athens was appointed guardian for the minors of David Anthony cline by the County Court Clerk of McMinn Co. Certificate: R.C. Slagle, clerk of the Macon Co. Court of Common Pleas and Quarter Sessions at Franklin on 3rd day of Nov., 1865, certified that on the 11th day of May, 1865, his office was forcibly entered by Federal troops under command of Col. George W. Kirk (of the Third NC Mtd. Inf.) and a portion of the records of the court destroyed, including to the best of his knowledge and belief, the record of marriage of David Anthony Cline and Caroline Ledbetter. Pension: $8 per month for the first minor, plus $2 per month for the others, from and after July 25, 1866, was approved for payment on May 15, 1867. Rebel Army: Somebody reported to the commissioner that David Anthony Cline had served in the Confederate Army prior to joining the Union Army. Investigation: Special Agent Martin Read reported to the commissioner from Knoxville on Nov. 17, 1873, that he had been to McMinn Co. and enclosed sowrn statements by Jacob M. and E.L. Derrick of Cochran's Cross Roads, McMinn Co., wherein they said that David Anthony Cline had served in the Rebel Army as a paid substitute for George Hill, son of Jackson Hill, wealthy farmer of McMinn Co., and that the consideration was $250 in U.S. greenbacks and a horse valued at $250. Jake Derrick said he was Conscript Officer for the Rebel Army and had personal knowledge of the case. Drop from rolls: The guardian was notified that further payments of pension to him in this case had been suspended and the minors' were dropped from the Rolls at the Knoxville Agency for Paying Pensions, Dec. 10, 1873. Confederate Archives: David A. Cline enlisted at Ferristone's McMinn Co., Dec. 15, 1861, as a private in Co. A, 59th Tenn. Inf., age 44. He was discharged by Order of Col. J.R.
