LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF Charles Orton, dec'd
State of Tenn.
McMinn Co.
Know all men, that I, Charles Orton, of lawful age and in my right
mind,
am possessed of an estate, and feeling that my health is fast failing,
and that I am fast approaching my desolution, and desires to settle
my
earthly afairs, I therefore give , will and bequeath to my affectionet,
wife Violet, all my lands and tenements of which I am possessed
to
gather with all the household, and kitchen, furniture and what money
I
have, except five dollars which I give to my grand daughter Elizabeth
Orton for wating on me all of which my wife Violet is to have and
to
hold during her natural lifetime, and all of which, property lands
and
tenements to gather with all the stock that belongs to me, I give
and
bequeath to my Son, John Orton, because he has lived with me and
helped,
to take care of me and my wife. And provided he still stays
with and
takes care of my wife, while she lives, and if he shall fail to
stay
with his mother, and take care of her, the whole property is her
property, and she may give it to some of the children who shall
take
care of her, or whoever she may desire to take care of her.
This being
my last will and testament this 23rd of December in the year of
our Lord

Charles Orton was born June 30, 1775 in Rowan County, NC, and died
September 20, 1871 in McMinn County, TN. He is buried in the
Morgan/Upper Spring Creek Cemetery near Riceville. His parents
were
James Orton and Sarah Vandeveer.
