Still searching for any info on Thomas and Rosannah Graham/Grimes in  Maury and Lewis Co. in 1830-1860. Also would like to make contact with anyone from Butler Noles line as believe we are connected. He is in household with Thomas and Rosannah in 1850, Lewis Co. Frances Duren Graham is mother of Thomas Graham; was living with married dau. in 1840, 80 yrs. old, was infirm, died about 1845-48. Don't know dau.'s name. She would have been approx. 50 yrs. old. She was b: S.C. All lived close to each other.

Butler Noles was my great-great-great-grandfather. I am also descended from an earlier Thomas Grimes.

My great-grandfather Jesse James Savage (b. 1 July 1827 in Hickman Co) was the son of William Savage and Penelope (Penny) Grimes (b. 1796-97 in Edgecomb Co, NC). I think she was the daughter of a John C. Grimes and granddaughter of a Thomas Grimes.

Jesse's son James Cathey Savage, Sr. (my grandfather) m. Alice Olivia Kennedy, dau of John Henry Kennedy and Josephine Bonaparte Noles (b 1849). Josephine was dau of Allen J. Noles, who was son of Butler Noles (b ll Mar 1769, Warren Co.,

NC).

I'm working from old notes of my mother's and have not done any research lately on those lines. I do not have those notes on my computer yet. There may well have been other connections between the families. You may want to contact my

aunt, Kitty Estes Savage (widow of James Cathey Savage, Jr.), or my cousin, Henry Savage, who have done more work. Kitty can be reached at mamakat@clarksville.com or Henry at savagehh@edge.net  .

Good luck!

Maybe this will help. Butler Noles, b. 11 March 1769 on Little Bigby Creek near

Paris F. Dooley, died 1860-70, Married 11 April 1793 Sally Baxter,b.16 June 1773;

d. 15 March 1812.  Butler m. (2) Elizabeth Rappe on 14 June 1814.  Her father was

foreign born.  By Sally,  six children  were:  Littleton,b. 30 Nov. 1793,

Feb.1803,d.July 1805; Rebeccab. 12 April 1807married 1831; and Allen J. b.8 August

By Elizabeth, there were 8 children;  Catherine b. 12 March 1815; Jessee b.17

January 1817; Tyre b.13 March 1819, d. 14 Nov. 1907. (Cousin Dan Delk wrote that

they called Tyre "Tarry" that he was well educated and "spent too much time

reading books".  When he died the family took all of his books out and burned

them. Cousin Dan drew a picture of a man with long lanky legs astride a mule with

a stick to help push the mule.); Susannah b.4 May 1821; Polly b. 21 Sept.1823;

William b.4 December 1825,d. 19 August 1875: Martha Jane b. 27 January 1828; and

Manda b. 14 May 1831.  In 1997, I had a serious illness and my children came home

to "help out".  Somehow a very important box of my genealogy papers disappeared

and in that box was much of my Noles material.  I haven't done much research on

the line in more than 10 years, but I do have a family ledger with some data in

it.   Can I help you more? KES

 Children of Daniel Shannon and Amanda Noles:

1.      Margaret Caroline Shannon

Born: 24-Aug-1863 Maury Co., TN

Died: 25-Nov-1898 (buried Jones Church Cemetery)

Married: 28 Dec 1882 Maury Co., TN

Spouse: William Alexander CATHEY

Note from Ella Cathey Finley to W.D. Bostick, 12-Sep-1977

"All that I know of my Grandfather Shannon - his name - & Grandmother name: Daniel Shannon (&) Amanda Knowles Shannon {note: Knowles is also written in some documents as "Noles"}

"They both lived to be old - had 4 children:

W. A. (Uncle Billy) Shannon,

Elizabeth Patton (Aunt Sis),

Janie Kirkpatrick (Aunt Janie),

Margaret Caroline Cathey (my mother) - she was the baby -

They were Irish from Ireland.  The Catheys were from Scotland."

Lightfoot & Shackelford, "They passed this Way; Vol. II, Maury Co., TN Death Records:

p. 33: CATHEY, Margaret, d. 25-Nov-1898 of pneumonia; age 35.  Another obit says Margaret C. Cathey, wife of William Cathey, died 26-Nov-1898; youngest daughter of Dan Shannon; age 35-3-1, husband and 4 children survive; buried Jones Church cemetery.

2.      Janie Shannon

Married: Will Kirkpatrick

"Century Review of Maury Co..", p. 326:

W.E. Goodman (b. 29-Jan-1879 at Hohenwald, Lewis Co.) is son of J.A. and Mary (Skelton) Goodman.  W.P. m. Pearl (b.2-Jan-1882), dau. of W.E. and Janie (Shannon) Kirkpatrick).  W.E. was son of Robt. and Tennessee (Raines) Kirkpatrick; Janie was dau. of Amanda Shannon.  Mr. Goodman owns 115 acres at Isom, where he is engaged in farming and stock raising.

From M.C. Bostick (1978): (re: children of W.A. Cathey): the 4th child was William Callie Cathey .. He married Charlotte Peery, and they still live on the old homestead where Uncle Will and Aunt Janie Kirkpatrick lived.  My natural grandmother died at childbirth when William was born, and William was adopted and raised by Aunt Janie and Uncle Willy, who had one child of their own, Pearl Kirkpatrick, who married Wilson Goodman.  And when Uncle Willy and Aunt Janie made their will, they divided everything they had equally between their natural daughter, Pearl, and their foster child William Cathey, which was quite a nice gesture, I thought.

Born: 10-Oct-1850 Maury Co., TN

Died: 29-May-1926

Married: 27-Oct-1867
