Am searching for information on my gggrandparents, JOHN WESLEY FURGERSON (may be spelled FERGUSON) and MAHULDIA (BRUCE) FURGERSON. I believe they were both born in Tennessee. John was born on January 14, 1815 and Mahuldia on September 10, 1815. They were in Tennessee until about 1853. At the time they left Tennessee they had five children, the first born in 1840. The 1830 and 1840 census records list both Bruces and Furgersons (Ferguson) living in Marshall County, so it would appear possible that our John and Mahuldia came from that area. ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE BRUCES AND FURGERSONS LIVING IN MARSHALL COUNTY IN 1830 AND 1840 would be very much appreciated.

Does anyone know why MARSHALL county is called MARSHALL county? I ask because my MARSHALL ancesters Benjamin MARSHALL and his wife Elizabeth lived and had children in Lincoln county sometime before 1818. Their children(that I know of) were: Julius, Tempea, Allen, Judah, James, Jesse, Benjamin, Samuel, John, Polly, and DAniel. So, I wondered if MARSHALL county could possibly come from the surname MARSHALL, and if so, could it be that some of these folks might have lived in the part of Lincoln county that later split into Marshall county? Any thoughts?
