Family information needed for surname DOTSON (DODSON). My mother is Velma (Dotson) Fitts, my G-mother is Dollie Dotson, born June 7, 1892, my GGmother is Mary _____________ DOTSON. All are from Lafayette, Macon County, TN. GGmother Mary __________ DOTSON was a slave. I do not have her maiden name. She married Thomas or George DOTSON. They were slaves and lived "up on the ridge" in Lafayette, TN. Some of the siblings migrated to Kentucky (Cave City and Bowling Green) The children of Mary ________ DOTSON and Thomas or George DOTSON were George E.J. (b.1867), James W. (b.1869), Laura (b.1871), Eliza J. (b.1872), Sarah (Isabelle) (b.1874), Sam L. (b.1878), Mary C. (b.???), Walter T. (b.1885), Birt (b.1889), and Dollie V. (b.1892). Dollie had two children, G. Hailey and Velma C. The only information I have is that Dollie died when Velma was very young, probably around 1930-1935. Any information, including information on Velma's father, is needed. Velma also has a brother, now deceased, who's name is George Hailey Dotson. I desperately need to get in touch with this side of my family. I will share and exchange any information I have.

  • BENTLE I am looking for some information concerning my great-great grandfather Joseph BENTLE and his marriage to a Bettie (no known maiden name). They had a daughter by the name of Gertrude Cornelius BENTLE, my great grandmother. In the 1880 census they are shown as living in Macon County, TN. Joseph was just turning 18, Bettie was 24 and Gertrude was 10 months old. I was wondering how I could possibly find out who Bettie is. Joseph shows up in a 1900 census as living in Texas with two boys ,a girl and supposedly a new wife. By this time Gertrude was married to my great grandfather. I am told that Joseph told his daughter Gertrude right before he died that the woman who had raised her was not Bettie (possible given name Elizabeth?) but his second wife and not her real mother. I would like to know who this Bettie is since he instructed Gertrude not to reveal any of the story to anyone else. Any help would be appreciated.

    WILSON, KERLEY, YORK, NASH

There is an error on the printed transcription of the 1860 Macon Co., TN census. Lydia Ray Cooper WILSON, (1822-1891) [dau. of Elizabeth BRANDON and William Jordan WILSON], should be identified as the widow of William KERLEY. In Carroll Co., TN Lydia and William KERLEY had two children: Jackson D. KERLEY (b.ca 1842) and Elizabeth M. KERLEY (b.ca 1844). By 1850, Lydia KERLEY was a widow. She married in Macon Co. Aaron YORK, a widower, 15 Dec. 1853. Aaron YORK was previously married to Jerusha KNIGHT; their children were: James, Rhoda Matilda, Marquis, Martha J., Charlotta, and Richard. Lydia and Aaron YORK's children were: William S. YORK, Kindred J. YORK, Lacey S. YORK, and Leroy C. YORK. On the 1870 census, Aaron YORK and his family live in HH#22 in the 6th District. Nearby at HH#25, is Jackson D. KERLEY, not KERBY (Lydia YORK's oldest son), with Rachel S. KERLEY and a baby, Amanda M.J.. Does anyone know what happened to Jackson D. KERLEY? Can anyone identify Rachel Susan NASH from Smith Co. TN?
