There are many graves marked with fieldstones. Also, due to it's age, some stones can no longer be read. The first church in Lewis County was located near Palestine Cemetery. The Methodist built this church in 1723 and named it Ebenezer. The late Tommie Ruth Black Bates, my mother, was born and raised in the area. She told me the Church had a second floor and the Masons met there. As a child she heard that part of becoming a Mason was to ride a goat. She said she always wondered how they got the goat up the stairs. She said many of the graves located near Ebenezer were slave families. The first pastor was James Tarrant who is reported to be buried near the church, but we were unable to find any record. Palestine also had a school at one time. Palestine, located on Salem Road, is eight miles East of Hohenwald on highway 412.

Ben Huddleston and Tommy Nance, two soldiers of Rev. War buried Old Palestine, Swan Creek, now in Lewis County, Tennessee.  Graves are side by side in N.W. Corner of graveyard; Judge S. Quitman Weatherly of Carter's Creek, Maury County, can identify graves." 

There are no markers for these soldiers. There were scattered flags at Palestine so two may have been for them, don't know.  Information in green was submitted by Kelli Burcham on 19 February 2003.
