Copied July 1984 from microfilm in the Tennessee State Archives, Nashville, by Merle Stevens.  This is not a complete copy of the death records for Lewis County, Tennessee.  It begins in 1910 and is through 1921.  Additional information from the transcriber, Merle Stevens, is noted in parentheses.  I wish to thank Mr. Stevens for allowing me to post his transcription.

Minerva Miller, b 1837, Perry Co, d 14 Jul 1914, Palestine, Lewis Co, buried Palestine Cemetery.  Her father was James K Halbrooks and her mother was Therina Kimmins.  (I think she is buried at the Harder Cemetery, Lewis Co)

Jennette Coffe, d 1914, age 4 months in Lewis Co.  She is buried Vinsent grave yard. (I think the Kittrell Cemetery is the old Vincent family cemetery) (complete listing on page 18)

Hinson.  (William Henry Mathis is buried at Betty Bastin Cemetery, Lewis Co, on Cane Creek.  He has a Confederate marker, b ca Feb 1842, son of Martha Henrietta Hinson.  He married Martha Delilah James.).

Emma Lou Skelton, b 1905, Lewis Co, 15 April 1918, Lewis Co, district 9, age 13.  Father: Legrande Skelton, b Lewis Co;  Mother Effie Freeman, b Lewis Co.  info given by Legrande Skelton.  (believe she is buried in Skelton Cemetery, Lewis Co, without a marker.)

J B Johnston, male, b Aug 1830, Hohenwald, d 27 July 1918, Lewis Co, district 3, age 89, buried Ebenezer Cemetery.  (This is John Bryson Johnston, son of John and Tabitha Johnston, per a bible record.  He was born 19 Aug 1829 and per Ethel Johnston Lindsey, died of the 28t of July, the day she married.  I would think he is buried in Palestine Cemetery.)

Jon_ ? Christian, b Lewis Co, d 10 Oct 1918, Hohenwald, Lewis Co, age 80, buried at Napier, TN.  Father: Tom Christian, b TN;  Mother: Miss Nancy ???, b TN.  (most likely JW Christian, buried Napier on Buffalo river 19 Feb 1838-9 Sept 1918, per 1860 Lewis Co Census, Jones W Christian, he married Francis R Napier (written in pen next to this entry is "could be wrong" with Francis' name underlined.)  Jones Wesley Christian was the son of Thomas T. and Mariah Biffle Christian.  Fenno Robenia Napier was the granddaughter of James Robertson, the founder of Nashville.  Jones Wesley Christian died Sept. 1918 and is buried at Napier Cemetery.  This information was in the American Historical Magazine - April 1896.  The information above is shared with us by Rosemary Christian Hinson.  Rosemary's  great-grandfather, Houston Thomas Christian - born 1852 and married Amanda E. Kennedy - was a brother to Jones Wesley Christian.

Lillie Smith, b Coble, TN, d 1 Jan 1919, Hohenwald, Rt. 1, Lewis Co, age 35, buried at Indian Creek.  Father: Charles Cagle, b Coble; Mother: ??? Lancaster, b Coble.  (Lillie E Cagle Smith is buried in Palestine Cemetery and her marker has been placed within 3-4 years.  29 Feb 1884-2 Jan 1919.  She married Elisha Nathaniel Smith.)

William Sharp, b 10 May 1844, Perry Co, d 15 Jan 1919, Lewis Co, district 5, age 74/8/5, farmer, married, burial at Nehemiah Graveyard.  Father: John Sharp, TN; Mother: Elizabeth Vincent, b SC.  info given by Willis Sharp, Hampshire.   (Willis and William were brothers.  William Sharp is buried in what Marjorie Graves calls Sharp Cemetery, between Kittrell and Walker Cemeteries.  This could be the cemetery for this grandfather, Nehemiah Sharp II.  William Sharp married 1st, Liddy Sims, and 2nd Sarah Josephine Vincent.)

Quillen, b Hohenwald, rt. 1.  (could be buried at Piney Cemetery.)  (***editor's note: Mother is Clara Ann Quillen.  most likely buried at Palestine Cemetery.  A sister who died in 1916 is buried there as well as both parents.)

L. W. is my GGGrandfather. L. W. is son of William B. Lancaster and Mary Ann Davidson.   L. W. Lancaster’s daughter,  Livonia Elzada Lancaster,  married Wyett Hinson, son of Solomon J. Hinson , son of John Hinson. Paralee married a Skelton.   Ms. Graves noted CSA which is not correct. The marker has a curved top which is GAR and not pointed top which is CSA.   It is marked Co. E, TN Mtd Inf which was the Union Army. The CSA should be deleted from the Web Page entry. The grave is about a mile from the Betty Bastin Cemetery.
