Vera Weaks
Vera Runions Weaks, Ponderosa Street, died Friday, May 24, 2002 at Lewis County Manor.  Mrs. Weaks, 88, was the daughter of the late James Franklin and Mary Katherine Sims Akin.  She was born September 8, 1913 in Lewis County.  She was a housewife.  The funeral was held Sunday, May 26 at 2:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home with Pastors Glenn Floyd and Richard Tate officiating.  Burial was in the Swiss Cemetery.  Mrs. Weaks is survived by two sons, Charles "Chuck" and Dewayne Runions of Hohenwald;  two daughters, Oneida Loveless of New Johnsonville, and Idell Barber of Hohenwald;  22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Webb W Runions; second husband, George Arthur Weaks; two sons, James and Joe Runions; two duaghters, Shirley Barnes and Martha Sisco; a brother, Lawrence Akin; and two sisters, Thelma York and Mary Whitlock.

Oscar Grinder
Oscar Scotty Grinder, Smith Avenue, died Monday, May 3, 2002
[editor note: according to the Nashville Tennessean, Mr. Grinder died 3 June 2002.  This entry was copied exactly as it appeared in the Lewis County Herald.] at Lewis Ambulatory Care Center.  He was 86 years old.  Mr. Grinder, a son of the late Henry and Nora Dabbs Grinder, was born May 19, 1916 in Waynesboro.  He was a former employee of Henry T. Siegel factory manufacturing plant.  Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. in Deavers Cemetery with Pastors L.B. Bromley and Dwayne Sparks, officiating.  Survivors include his wife, Elva Mae Grinder;  two daughters, Nora Deavers of Hohenwald, and Theresa Spears of Orange, Virginia;  and two grandchildren.

Leo Buchanan
Leo Buchanan, age 68, of Big Opossum Rod, Linden, died near his home on Monday, May 27, 2002.  He was born on October 31, 1933 in Green County, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Roy Lawrence and Kathryn Dils Buchanan.  Mr. Buchanan was a retired bus driver and farmer.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, was serving as Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, Hohenwald Chapter 393 and a Protestant.  An Eastern Star funeral service was conducted at Shackelford Funeral Home in Waynesboro Wednesday evening, May 29.  Later in the week the funeral was held at the Mandley Funeral Home in Fairview Park, Ohio.  Burial was in the Lakewood Park Cemetery in Rocky River, Ohio.  Survivors include two sons, Roy Leo Buchanan of Charleston, West Virginia, and William Buchanan of Mahwah, New Jersey;  two daughters, Patty Bower of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Peggy Gornick of Seward, Pennsylvania;  one brother, John Buchanan of Eulic, Ohio;  eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild;  and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Charlene Miller Buchanan, who died April 19, 1989,  and Kenneth and Robert Buchanan.  

D. Bill Crowell
Dewey "Bill" Billy Crowell, Waynesboro Highway, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at Wayne County Medical Center.  Mr. Crowell, 70, was the son of the late Bud and Marie Turnbow Crowell.  He was born June 4, 1931 in Lewis County.  He was formerly employed as a Crew Leader for the Forestry Division of the State of Tennessee.  The funeral was held at McDonald Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. with Joe Paul Bryant officiating.  Burial was in the Crowell Family Cemetery.  Survivors include one son, Jackie Lynn Crowell of Nashville;  one daughter, Julie Crowell of Waynesboro;  one step-brother, D L Holder of Waynesboro;  two sisters, Charlene McGahan of Waynesboro and Shirley McClain of Toledo, Ohio;  and one half-sister, Eliese Ray of Waynesboro.

Arvis Youngblood
Arvis Delois Youngblood, Arc Circle, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at her home.  Mrs. Youngblood, 68, was born August 1, 1933 in Hohenwald.  She was the daughter of the late Odis and Willa Dean Johnson Wollridge.  She was employed in domestic employment.  The funeral will be held Thursday, June 6 at 1:00 p.m. with Elder Stephen Harvey officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Peter's Cemetery.  Mrs. Youngblood is survived by a daughter, Dexter Johnson of Hohenwald;  two brothers, Hugh Woolridge of Centerville, and Andrew Woolridge of Hohenwald;  three sisters, Joan Love and Margaret Booker of Hohenwald, and Mildred Stone of Lyles;  a grandson, Jarrod Johnson of Antioch; three uncles.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irman Youngblood.

Alf Loveless
Alfred "Alf" Lewis  Loveless, Amacher Avenue, died Friday, June 14, 2002 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia.  Mr. Loveless, 84, was the son of the late Lee Commodore and Martha Elizabeth Henley Loveless.  He was born December 22, 1917 in Lewis County.  He was an Army Veteran of World War II and ad retired equipment operator of Great Lakes Steel.  The funeral was held Sunday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m. with Ministers Don Jones and L.C. Loveless officiating.  Burial was in the Loveless Cemetery.  He is survived by his wife, Jewell Cooper Loveless of Hohenwald, three step-sons, Coy and Tim Anderson of Waynesboro, and Joe Anderson of Columbia;  two step-daughters, Buna Holt of Del Rio, Texas, and Brenda Whitten of Cypress Inn;  eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Eloise McCord
Eloise Adcox McCord, Wedgewood Avenue, Nashville, died Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Baptist Hospital.  Mrs. McCord, 83, was born March 11, 1919, in Hickman County.  She was the daughter of the late Elbert Murray and Esther Jane Mann Adcox.  She was a homemaker.  The funeral was held Tuesday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home with Ministers David and Jimmy Adcox officiating.  Burial was in the Swiss Cemetery.  She is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Charlie) Campbell of Columbia;  three grandsons, Chuck Campbell of Stowe,Ohio, Van Campbell of Birmingham, Alabama, and Tom Campbell of Franklin;  and 10 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, everett "Buck" Wesley McCord, and a brother, James Murray "Tookie" Adcox.

Beatrice Meece
Beatrice Quillen Meece, 85, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 in Baptist DeKalb Hospital.  She was a native of Hohenwald.  She was a long-time member of the Madison Church of Christ.  The funeral will be held Thursday, June 27 at 1:00 p.m. in Bixler Chapel of the Madison Church of Christ, with Dr. Steve Flatt officiating.  Burial will be in Hermitage Memorial Gardens.  Mrs. Meece is survived by two daughters, Susan Meece and Myrna Shurtleff; a son, Aubrey Meece; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke McGuiil Meece.

Alvin E. O'Neal
Alvin Eugene O'Neal, 49, died Sunday, June 16 2002.  Mr. O'Neal was an Elder at New Hope Road Church of Christ.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home in Goodlettsville with Ministers Miller Frost, Artie Collins, and Frank Matherly officiating.  Burial was in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Nashville.  Survivors include his wife, Susan Marie O'Neal; parents, Leslie W. and Velma L. O'Neal; two daughters, Erica Marie (Chris) Brown and Kayla Renee O'Neal; two brothers, Jerry Wayne and Dwight William O'Neal; two sisters, Peggy J Cook and Nancy L Rhodes; three grandchildren, Kelsey Elizabeth Marie, Hailey Grace, and Autumn Lane Brown.

Martha Sublett
Martha Jean Sublett of 1327 Summertown Highway died June 19, 2002 at Lewis County Manor.  She was 72.  Funeral service was held Friday, June 21 at 11:00 a.m. at McDonald Funeral Home.  Artie Collins, pastor of Springer Church of Christ, officiated at the service.  Burial was in the Springer Cemetery.  A native of Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Mason and ;Maggie Griggs Woodfin.  Mrs. Sublet was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl Sublett.  Survivors include two sons, William (Sonny) Earl Sublett, Jr. and Jerry Sublett of Hohenwald; two brothers, Glen Woodfin of Gadsden, Alabama, and Charles Woodfin of Florence, Alabama; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Frances Floyd
Sally Frances Floyd, Park Avenue North, died Monday, June 24, 2002 at the Life Care Center in Columbia.  Mrs. Floyd, 83, was born January 12, 1919 in Lewis County.  She was the daughter of the late Dodson and Hessie Davis Robnett.  She was a retired beautician.  The funeral was held at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday June 26 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Chip Hunter and John Anderson officiating.  Burial was in the Swiss Cemetery.  Survivors include three sisters, Nadine Cothran and Dorothy Sharp of Hohenwald, and Rebecca Pollock of Huntsville, Alabama;  several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Woodrow Floyd.

Arlene Mitchell
Arlene Mitchell, 77, of Smyrna died Monday, June 24, 2002.  She was a native of Lawrence County and a daughter of the late Thomas Franklin and Elma Amanda Brooks Mitchell.  She was a retired caregiver and attended the Division Street Church of Christ in Smyrna.  The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.  She is survived by two daughters, Benita Hughes and Brenda Henson of Smyrna; Jimmy (Michelle) Henson of Eagleville; a sister, Virginia Timmons of Carson City, Nevada; a brother, Tom Mitchell of Chapel Hill; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn E. Barber
Carolyn Elizabeth Barber of 36 Walnut Circle, Hohenwald, died June 19, 2002 at Maury regional Hospital.  She was 83.  Funeral Service was held Saturday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Blondy Church of God.  Officiating at the service were Jack Tharp, pastor of Napier Pentecostal Church, David Jackson, pastor of First Pentecostal Church, Bill Webb, pastor of Blondy Church of God, Roy Barber and Darrell Barber.  A native of Lewis County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Maude Poore Brown.  She was born September 5, 1918.  Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar R. Barber, and daughter, Betty Sue Barber.  Survivors include three sons, Bobby Barber of Parsons; Donald Barber and Douglas Barber of Hohenwald; two daughters, Laquita Carroll and Kathy Sharp of Hohenwald; three brothers, Harold Brown of Springville, Ernest Brown of Tampa, Florida, and Joe Will Brown of Summerville, South Carolina;  two half-brother, James Brown of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dale Brown of Hohenwald;  four half-sisters, Betty James of McEwen, Nina Mathis of Waynesboro, Ruth Scott and Martha Hensley of Hohenwald;   25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

James Garland
James Calvin garland, 59, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, June 22, 2002 at Maury Regional Hospital.  He was the son of the late Lasson and Lillie Self Garland.  He was employed by Murray, Inc. as a machinist and he was a member of the House of Prayer.  Funeral services were held Monday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. in Neal Funeral Home Chapel with Brothers Ronnie Runnels and Larry Spears officiating.  Survivors include his wife, Sudie Pollock Garland of Lawrenceburg; a daughter, Tammy Denice Burleson of Lawrenceburg; a step-daughter, Lori Smith of Hohenwald; two step-sons, Keith Staggs of Lawrenceburg, and Tommy Staggs of Hohenwald;  three brothers, Charles and Ray Garland of Lawrenceburg, and Howard Garland of Columbia;  two grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joel Garland, and a brother, J. W. Garland.

Mary Sweeney
Mary Lourene Sweeney, N. Pine, 91, died Monday, July 1, 2002 at Life Care Center in Columbia.  She was the daughter of the Late George and Lillian Wright McClaren.  She was born July 30, 1910 in Farmer's Exchange.   She was a former bookkeeper at the funeral home in Oak Ridge.  The funeral was held Wednesday, July 3 at 1:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home with Chip Hunter, pastor of United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery in Pleasantville.  Survivors include a step-daughter, Patricia Macjejewski of Kissimmee, Florida; four nieces, Carolyn Gafford of Hohenwald, Peggy Patterson of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Brenda McClaren of California and a nephew, Kenneth Hinson of Lawrenceburg.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Sweeney.

Elizabeth Morton
Elizabeth Pearl Morton, Lynnwood Drive, 75, died Monday, July 1, 2002 at Maury Regional Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Rosa Stewart Cross, born August 6, 1926 in Mt. Pleasant.  She was a homemaker.  The funeral was held Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Jerry Morton officiating.  Burial was in the Ring Cemetery in Columbia.  She is survived by her husband, James A. Morton; two sons, William Clifton Miller of Nashville, and Thomas Hilton Miller of Los Angeles, California;  two step-sons, Jerry and Jim R. Morton of Hohenwald;  a half-sister, Christine Wright of Columbia; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ollie C, Miller.

Elva L. DeVault
Elva Louise DeVault, 81, Nashville, died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at Southern Hills Hospital in Nashville.  Mrs. DeVault, born July 25, 1920 in Gadsden, Alabama, was the daughter of the late Jim and Ella Baker Burns.  She was a homemaker.  The funeral was held at McDonald Funeral Home on Monday, July 1, at 2:00 p.m. with Kyle Conner officiating.  Burial was in the Swiss Cemetery in Hohenwald.  She is survived by her husband, John Edward DeVault; a son, Don Edward DeVault of Nashville; two daughters, Judy Gayle (Carl) Maxwell and Cathy Sue DeVault of Nashville; a brother, Cecil Burns, Hobart, Indiana; two grandsons, Carl Kevin (Teresa) Maxwell of Olmstead, Kentucky and John Steven (Sherrie) Maxwell of Rockvale; a granddaughter, Jennifer Dawn Maxwell of Nashville; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Andrew and Britney Ann Maxwell of Olmstead, Kentucky; Nathaniel Hunter Maxwell of Rockvale; and Autumn Rayne Hunt of Nashville.

Anthony Grippi, Sr.
Anthony Grippi, Sr., 64, died Tuesday, July 9, at his home in Linden after a battle with cancer.  The funeral will be held Thursday, July 11, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at MacDonald Funeral Home with Pastors Marcus Webb and Bill Webb of Blondy Church of God officiating.  Burial will be in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens.  Mr. Grippi, born December 15, 1937, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, was the son of the late Anthony T. and Josephine Sapenzia Grippi.  He was United States Navy veteran and a self-employed Mason.  Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Grippi of Linden; two sons, Vincent Anthony Grippi of Columbia, Anthony T. Grippi of Linden; a daughter Noreen Hudgins of Hohenwald; a sister, Connie Caiola of Long Island, New York; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Michele Grippi.

Gerald D. Huggins
Gerald Don Huggins, 64, Nashville, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Vanderbilt Medical Center.  The funeral was held Wednesday, July 10, at MacDonald Funeral Home with Richard Tate officiating.  Burial was in the Napier Cemetery.  He was the son of the late Desmond and Pauline Pennington Huggins.  He was born November 13, 1937.  He was an employee at Con-Ag Chemical.  He is survived by his brother, Alfred Huggins of Hohenwald; five sisters, Ruth Craig, Ruby Belew, Agnes Holden, and Mary Helen Garrett, all of Hohenwald, and Joan Brewer of Columbia; several nieces and nephews.

Ollie Spears
Ollie Junior Spears, Drake Lane, Summertown, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at St. Thomas Hospital.  He was 70.  Mr. Spears was born January 15, 1932, in Lewis County.  He was the son of the late Henry Washington and Ollie Williams Spears.  He was an United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a former City of Hohenwald laborer.  The funeral was held Saturday, July 6, at 11:00 a.m. at MacDonald Funeral Home with Kyle Conner and Bill Webb, Pastor of the Blondy Church of God, officiating.  Burial was in the Himes Cemetery in Summertown.  Survivors include four brothers, Houston and Lawrence Spears of Hohenwald, Clyde Spears of Ethridge and Edward Spears of Ashland City; four sisters, Jean Shirley, Edna Potts, and Wilma Potts of Summertown, and Lois McBride of McEwen.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Spears was preceded in death by his wife Melba Jean Spears.

Mildred F. Beatty
Mildred Fain Beatty, 97, of Franklin and a former resident of Hohenwald, died Monday, June 8, 2002.  Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 10, at 10:00 a.m. in the Brentwood Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ron Becton officiating.  Burial was in the Beatty Cemetery in Hohenwald.  She is survived by three sons, Cletus L. Beatty of Crain, Missouri, Charles C. Beatty of Lebanon, and Samuel W. Beatty of Manchester; two daughters, Iva Mae Shearer of Greenwood, Indiana, and Ina Rhea Robbins of Franklin; a nephew, J. P. Beatty of Hohenwald, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-granchildren.

John Henderson
John Robert Henderson, 395 Howard Switch Road, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at Lewis Ambulatory Care Center.  The funeral was held Wednesday, July 17 at McDonald Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill Webb of Blondy Church of God officiating.  Burial was in the Himes Cemetery in Summertown.  Mr. Henderson, 55, was born April 29, 1947 in Hohenwald.  He was the son of the late James Reuel and Ruby Lucille Bloom Henderson of Hohenwald.  He as self-employed in the auto body business.  He is survived by his wife, Deloris Henderson of Hohenwald; a son, Robert Lee Henderson of Hohenwald; two daughters, Cynthia Lucille Henderson and Rebecca Lynn (Michael) Hinson of Hohenwald;  a brother, James Raymond Henderson of Rockwood, Michigan; a half-sister, Willowdean Rose of Alpena, Michigan; four grandchildren, John Christopher, David Andrew, and Joseph Michael Sanders, all of Hohenwald, and Gabriel Lynnette Gallagher of Hohenwald.

Willie Neil Ashley
Willie Neil Ashley, 101 South Park Avenue, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia.  He was 78.  The funeral was held Saturday, July 13 at 11:00 a.m. at McDonald Funeral Home with Dr. Greg McFadden, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating.  Burial was in Lewis County Memorial Gardens.  Mr. Ashley was born June 11, 1924 in Bells, was the son of the late Aaron and Frances Chapman Ashley.  He was a veteran of the US Navy and a retired pawn shop owner.  Survivors include 5 sons, Bobby Neil Ashley of West Memphis, Arkansas, Rodney Ashley of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Timothy Sherman Ashley of Hohenwald, Jonathan Andrew Ashley of Brownsville, and William Todd Ashley of Mt. Pleasant;  4 daughters, Dixie Elaine Ashley of Memphis, Dixie Helen Malcolm of Fairfax, Oklahoma, Deborah W Jameson-Lu of Elkhart, Indiana, and Mary Rachel Walker of Hohenwald;  a half-brother, Anthony Ashley of Mississippi; a sister, Carolyn Mott of Memphis;  21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Priscilla Colleen Runions and a brother, A G Ashley.

Alice C. Bowman
Alice Christina Bowman, 63, died Sunday July 14, 2002 at Maury Regional Hospital.  Mrs. Bowman was born February 22, 1939 in Riverview, Michigan.  She was the daughter of the late Orville Surness and Alma Lydia Redman Berry.  She was a homemaker.  She is survived by a son, David Bowman of Brownstown Township, Michigan; 2 daughters, Christina Adams of Hohenwald, and Laura Bowman of Melvindale, Michigan; a brother, Norman Berry of Halle, Michigan;  5 sisters, Wilma McLaughlin of Ecorse, Michigan, Darlene Kelly of Woodhaven, Michigan, Marion Caskey of Belleville, Michigan, Alma Coteldo of Wyandotte, Michigan, and Lydia Hensley of Phoenix, Arizona; and 6 grandchildren.

Edna Floy Overby
Edna Floy Overby, 93, of Nashville, formerly of Hohenwald, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at Lakeshore Wedgewood Retirement Center in Nashville.  The funeral will be held at McDonald Funeral Home on Friday July 19 at 11:00 a.m. with L.C. Loveless, Minister of the Gordonsburg Church of Christ officiating.  Burial will be in the Swiss Cemetery.  Mrs. Overby was born February 12, 1909 in hickman County.  She was the daughter of the late Leonard "Lennie"  and Allie Anderson Aydelott.  She was a teacher in the Lewis and Hickman County School Systems for 32 years.  Survivors include her husband, James Bascom Overby of Goodlettsville; 2 daughters, Lennie Gayle Nelson of Walling and Carol Winn of Goodlettsville;  4 brothers, Prince Aydelott of Dickson, LT and Horace Aydelott of Centerville, and Gray Aydelott of Deland, Florida;  five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Grace Haynes, and 2 brothers, Clyde and Wright Aydelott.

Max E. Herring
Max E. Herring, 72, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.  The funeral was held Friday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc, Mississippi with Brothers Tommy Inman and Junior Ritchie officiating.  Burial was in Cooke Memorial Cemetery.  Mr. Herring was the son of the late Jessie and Lilly Murphy Herring.  He was a truck driver for Commercial Carriers, a Baptist, a Mason and a United States Air Force Veteran.  He is survived by his wife, Lujean Herring of Pontotoc, Mississippi; one step-daughter, Brenda Hadaway of Pontotoc, Mississippi;  two sons, Greg Herring of Hohenwald and Rick Herring of Memphis; one step-son, Terry Wages of Tupelo, Mississippi; five grand children and one great-grandchild.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Gail Herring.

Evelyn Dickinson
Evelyn Juanita Dickinson, 612 Ponderosa Drive, died Friday, July 19, 2002 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.  The funeral was held Sunday, July 21 at 1:00 p.m. with Richard Tate officiating.  Burial was in the Loveless Cemetery.  Mrs. Dickinson, 71, was born July 25, 1930 in Chandler Springs, Alabama.  She was the daughter of the late Carl and Grace Chandler Poe.  She was a homemaker.  Survivors include her husband, Bill Dickinson of Hohenwald;  two daughters, Catherine Walsh of Tucson, Arizona and Rosie Anderson of Decatur, Alabama;  a brother, Millard Poe of Talladega, Alabama; three sisters, Melba Sewell of Talladega, Alabama, Margie Maddox of Ashland, Alabama, and Opal Grizzard of Carrollton, Georgia;  five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Sheila McDonald
Sheila McDonald, 119 Kittrell Avenue, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Perry Community Hospital in Linden.  Graveside services were Wednesday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at New Hope Cemetery with Richie Anderson officiating.  Ms. McDonald, 43, was the daughter of the late Thomas and Esther McDonald.  She is survived by a brother, Larry McDonald of Alabama.

Vickie Beshears
Vickie Janine Beshears died in Belleville, Illinois on October 12 ,2001.  Mrs. Beshears' urn containing her remains was interned July 12, 2002 in the family plot at Downey Cemetery in Hohenwald.  She was the daughter of Gene and Jeannie Wiggins and granddaughter of Ruth Anderson, all of Mascautah, Illinois.  [editor's note:  according to the Social Security Death Index, Mrs. Beshears was born 20 February 1964.]

Betty Maddox
Betty Ghist Maddox, 418 Amacher Drive, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Lewis County Manor.  Graveside services weill be held Thrusday, July 25 in the O'Guin Cemetery with Minister Gene Durham officiating.  Mrs. Maddox, 67, wasd born April 15, 1935 in Hohenwald.  She was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Oma Lee Bullion Ghist.  She was  formerly employed as a teacher's aide with the Hickman County School System.  Survivors include her husband, Alfred Maddox of Duck River; a sister, Joan Holt of Fort Worth, Texas;  and a nephew, Kevin Holt of Columbus, Indiana.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Bobby) Ghist.

Curtis Gobel, Jr, of Bradford, died Monday, July 29, 2002 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.  Mr. Gobel was born October 26, 1943 in Hohenwald.  He was the son of the late Gus and Gladys Pickard Gobel, Sr.  He was a united States Navy Vietnam veteran.  He was employed as a laborer in construction.  Survivors include his wife, Valerie Willot Gobel of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota;  three sons, Randy Sanchez of California, Cameron Gobel of Illinois, and Robert Gobel of Tennessee;  a daughter, Julie Gobel of Ohio; a brother, Russell Gobel of Hohenwald, a sister, Lucy Smith of Dyersburg;  and eight grandchildren.

Mary Ruth Spears, 316 Sycamore Avenue, died Thursday, August 1, 2002 at St. Thomas Hospital after an extended illness.  The funeral was held Saturday, August 3 at 11:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home with Elvis Williams, Minister of Flatrock Church of Christ, and Bill Webb of Blondy Church of God, officiating.  Burial was in the Springer Cemetery.  Mrs. Spears was the daughter of the late Harrison and Anne Belle Hinson.  She had  been formerly employed at Genesco for 35 years.  She is survived by her husband, Houston Spears of Hohenwald, two sons, Rickey (Lydia) Spears and John (Debbie) Spears of Hohenwald; a daughter, Linda Kaye (Wayne) Tatum of Hohenwald;  a brother, Luther Allen Hinson of Hohenwald; two sisters, Juanita Jones and Charlene Carroll of Hohenwald;  five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Edward Minyard
Edward Kolb Minyard,74, former resident of Hohenwald, died November 2, 2001 in Houston, Texas.  He and his wife, Helen Louise Hargrave Minyard, were married fifty years.  She passed away  January 10, 2002.  Mr. Minyard was born August 6, 1927 in Mobile, Alabama.  He was the son of the late James John and Hattie Ruth Kolb Minyard.   He was  a member of the MEBA for 40 years and he was a United States Army Veteran.   Survivors include a daughter, Teri Murakami of England;  a son, Edward Kolb Minyard, Jr. of Hohenwald; two brothers, James Minyard of Anniston, Alabama, and W.G. Manning of Pensacola, Florida; three grandchildren, Tristen and Danielle Murakami of Houston, Texas; and Raven Minyard of Hohenwald.  

Helen Minyard
Helen Louis Hargrave Minyard, former resident of Hohenwald, died January 10, 2002 in Houston, Texas.  She was the daughter of the late Coffman and Rebecca White Garrett.  She was born December 1, 1929 in Athen, Alabama.  Survivors include a daughter, Teri Murakami of England;  a son, Edward Kolb Minyard, Jr. of Hohenwald; two sisters, Shirley Carroll of Hohenwald and Mary Gibson of Columbus, Ohio;  a brother, William White of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Tristen and Danielle Murakami of Houston, Texas; and Raven Minyard of Hohenwald.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Edward Kolb Minyard.

Jess Cothran, Jr.
Jess Cothran, Jr., 115 Junior Drive, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at Maury Regional Hospital.  The funeral was held Saturday, August 3 at 2:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home with L.C. Loveless, minister of Gordonsburg Church of Christ, officiating.  Burial was in the Swiss Cemetery.  Mr. Cothran, 82, was the son of the late Jess and Lia Mae Boyce Cothran, Sr.  He was a farmer, painter, and carpenter.  He had been formerly employed as a school bus driver for the Lewis County School System for 28 years.  He was a member of the Salem Church of Christ where he served as deacon and song leader.  Mr. Cothran was a former commissioner of Lewis County and served for many years on the Lewis County Soil Conservation Board.  He is survived by a son, Jimmy Cothran of Hohenwald; a daughter, Sheila Cothran of Hohenwald; three brothers, Mack Cothran of Farmington, Michigan, Bobby and Billy Cothran of Hohenwald;  four sisters, Christine Hickerson of Detroit, Michigan, Era Nell Peters, Lucille Cotham and Freddie Sublett, all of Hohenwald; a grandson, Chad Cothran of Hohenwald; two granddaughters, Lisa Fransen and Tanonni Layne of Hohenwald; one Great-granddaughter, Jessica Fransen of Hohenwald; two great-grandsons, Logan and Ethan Fransen of Hohenwald.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie Eunice Cothran.

Jimmy Thomas Huggins, 18, of Linden, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002.  The funeral was held Saturday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home in Linden with Matthew McKnight officiating.  Burial was in the Dowdy-Sanders Cemetery.  Survivors include his father, Christopher L. Huggins of Hohenwald; mother, Stacy Jackson Huggins of Linden; grandparents, Alfred Huggins of Hohenwald, Gene and Virginia Pevahouse of Linden; great-grandmother, Lorene Dowdy of Linden and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Leon Jackson,; grandmother, Mavis Huggins, and great-grandfather, Forrest W. William Earl Cross of Nashville, died Saturday, August 10, 2002 at Veteran's Hospital.  The funeral was held Monday, August 12 at 3:30 p.m. with Reverend Charles Helm, pastor of Trinity Assembly of God, officiating.  Burial was at Williams Cemetery.  Mr. Cross, 67, was the son of the late Harvey and Myrtle Roden Cross.  He was born February 15, 135 in Hickman County.  He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He was employed as a carpet installer.  He is survived by a daughter, Reba Proctor of Hohenwald; two sons, Jack Cross of Hohenwald, and Greg Cross of Humboldt;  two brothers, Atlas Cross of Iron City and Donald Cross of Hohenwald;  five sisters, Vera Porter of Fairview, Glenda Tanner of Centerville, Karen Turner of Hohenwald, Darlene  Banfield of Smyra, and Gail Brooks of Columbia;  five grandchildren and a special friend, Jeanette McCormick of Nashville.

Sheila Shoemaker
Sheila Mae Shoemaker, 136 Limo View Lane, died Friday, August 9, 2002 at Lewis Ambulatory Care.  Funeral Services were held Monday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m. with Earl Morris officiating.  Burial was in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens.  Mrs. Shoemaker, 50, was the daughter of Dewey and Margaret Widden Todd of Centerville.  She was born November 14, 1951 in Tampa, Florida.  She was a registered nurse for Community Home Health.  Survivors in addition to her parents are her husband, John W. Shoemaker of Hohenwald; a son, Jack Shoemaker of Hohenwald;  a sister, Sharon Lee of Walls, Mississippi; a grandson, Christopher Shoemaker of Hohenwald; and two granddaughters, Christy Peery and Crystal Hinson of Hohenwald.

Eunice Ovan Bullion
E. O. Bullion, 81, died Sunday, July 28, 2002.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 30 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Goodlettsville.  Mr. Bullion was born in Lewis County to the late Walter and Martha Bullion.  He was a graduate of George Peabody College, a veteran of World War II, and retired from Dupont with 37 years of service.  He was a member of the Church of Christ.  Mr. Bullion is survived by his wife, Monetta Rasbury Bullion; one son, Don (Kathy) Bullion; one daughter, Benita Bullion; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosetta (Ostien) Shann, Nadine (Clifford) Turnbow, Florine Gossett, Judy Woodruf; brother and sister-in-law, Van B (JoAnn) Rasbury;  two granddaughters, Denicia Bullion Wills and Christie (Glenn) Johnson; two great-grandsons, Corey and Steven Wills; five step-grandchildren, Patty (Jeff) Davis, Maureen (Wayne) Hill, Barbara (Terry) Short, Michael Collins, and Rob (Angie) Collins;  fifteen step-great-grandchildren, four step great-great-grandchildren; and devoted family friend, Martha Sanford.

Alton "Buster Sanders, Jr.
Alton "Buster" Charles Sanders, Jr., 130 Switzerland road, died Wednesday, August 7, 2002 in a vehicular accident near Abilene, Texas.  A family member reported Sanders asleep in the sleeper portion of the tractor trailer truck when the accident happened.  He was ejected from the vehicle.  The driver apparently dozed and lost control  of the vehicle when he overcorrected resulting in the one vehicle accident.  The driver was reported to have only minor injuries.  Funeral services were held Saturday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral HOme with Chet Darden and Richard Tate officiating.  Burial was in Melton Cemetery.  Mr. Sanders, 37, was the son of Alton Charles Sanders, Sr. of McKenzie and Ophelia Seiber Green of Hohenwald.  He was born August 13, 1964 in Columbia.  He was a United States Army Veteran, and was employed as a truck driver with Service Transport.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kathy Huth Sanders of Hohenwald;ste-father, Larry Green of Hohenwald, ;step-mother, Kathy Sanders of McKenzie; three sons, John Christopher, David Andrew, and Joseph Michael Sanders of Hohenwald; three step-daughters, Kayla Renee, Michelle Kathleen, and Corie Danielle Moore of Hohenwald; a sister, Lori Green of Hohenwald; a step-sister, Diane Renkema of Pawnee, Oklahoma; three step-brothers, Rodger Green of Pawnee, Oklahoma, and Stephen and Terry Green of Evansville, Indiana.

Robert Lynn Coble, 308 S. Walnut Street, died Monday, August 12, 2002 at Lewis Ambulatory Care Center.  Graveside services were held Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Cemetery with Paul Spears officiating.  Mr. Coble, 34, was the son of Clifton Leon and Carolyn Poag Coble.  He was born July 16, 1968 in Linden.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Minnie Poag of Hohenwald;  two sisters, Carolyn Dianne Coble of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Teresa Yvonne Miles of Los Angeles, California; one brother, James D. Finis Leotus Spears, 95, died Thursday, August 22, 2002 at his home on 113 North Pine Street.  The funeral was held Saturday, August 24 at 2:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home with Artie Collins, minister of Springer Church of Christ, Elvis Williams, minister of Flatrock Church of Christ, and Mike Moon, officiating.  Burial was in the Springer Cemetery.  Mr. Spears was the son of the late Nilus Columbus and Lenora Grimes Spears.  He was born March 7, 1907 in Hohenwald.  He was a retired employee of Genesco.  Survivors include a son, Waylin (Jane) Spears of Hohenwald;  two daughter, Reatha Shults and Josephine (Elmer) Grimes, both of Hohenwald; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Don Rex Talley of Linden.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Hinson Spears.

Robert Ray Self
Robert Ray Self, 59, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack in Salem, Missouri on Monday, July 29, 2002.  Arrangements were made through Duncan Funeral Home in Mountain View, Missouri.  Mr. Self was the son of the late Edd and Jennie Self.  He was a United States Navy Veteran, farmer, logger and writer.  Survivors include his wife, Amy Self, of Hohenwald; one son, David Self, of Jamestown; five daughters, Branwyn Fitschen, Felicity Purcell, Araminta Biton, and Verity Cooper, all of Boise, Idaho, and Serena Self of Baton Rouge, Louisiana;  four sisters, one brother and seven grandchildren.

Jean Butler, 8 Walnut Circle, died Wednesday  August 28, 2002 at St. Thomas Hospital.  She was 71.   Graveside services were held Friday, August 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Kittrell Cemetery with Reverend Robert Helfin, pastor of Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiating.  Mrs. Butler was the daughter of the late W R and Nancy Moonyham Caldwell, born July 7, 1931 in Clinhco, Virginia.  She was a retired employee of H.I.S.  Survivors include three sons, Darrell Stiltner of Newport, Dennis Stiltner of Hohenwald, and Edward Stiltner of Charlotte, North Carolina;  two daughters, Nancy Newhouser of Memphis, and Norma Hollway of Hohenwald;  four step-sons, Richard Butler of Centerville, Danny, Phillip, and Isaac Butler of Hohenwald;  two step-daughters, Melanie Smith and Amber Butler of Hohenwald; four brothers, Tony Caldwell of Clinhco, Virginia; Richard Caldwell of Newport; Terry and Arlan Caldwell of Chicago, Illinois;  a sister, Leora Street of Kingsport;  six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bryon Butler.  

Elise Humphreys
Elise Humphreys, 641 Swan Avenue, died Friday, August 30, 2002 at Lewis County Manor.  She was 90.  The funeral was held Monday, September 2 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Greg McFadden,  pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial was in the Swiss Cemetery.  Mrs. Humphreys was the daughter of the late Samuel H and Lena Mai Hull Hinson, born June 16, 1912 in Hohenwald.  She was a former Cafeteria Manager in the Lewis County School System.  She is survived by two sons, D.D. Humphreys, III of Destin, Florida, and James Boyd Humphreys of Hohenwald;  a brother, Charles Cuthbert Hinson of Columbia; a sister, Joann Hyatt of Hohenwald; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Humphreys was preceded in death by her husband, Judge David Douglas Humphreys, Jr; a daughter, Eleanor Andolyn Humphreys, three brothers, Jesse Waddell Hinson, Samuel Hinson, Jr, and Bernard Hinson;  two sisters, Aline Treadwell and Charlotte Epperson.

Alfred H. Huggins
Alfred Hickman Huggins, 405 South Court Street, died Saturday, August 31, 2002 at the Lewis County Manor.  He was 73.  The funeral was held Monday, September 2, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. t McDonald Funeral Home with Glen Floyd, pastor of Freedom Holy Temple officiating.  Burial was in the Swiss Cemetery.  Mr. Huggins was the son of the late Desmon and Pauline Pennington Huggins, born November 6, 1928 in Lawrence County.  He was a United States Army Veteran and a retired merchant of retail sales.  He is survived by a son, Chris Huggins of Hohenwald;  two step-sons, Mike Middleton of Hohenwald, and Terry Middleton of West Haven, Florida;  a step-daughter, Brenda Horner of Hohenwald;  five sisters, Ruth Craig, Ruby Belew, Agnes Holden and Mary Helen Garrett of Hohenwald, and Joan Brewer of Columbia;  seven step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was precede in death by his wife, Mavis Huggins.

Kathleen Schultz
Kathleen Peery Schultz of Oak Ridge died Sunday, September 1, 2002 at her home.  Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Harold Scott officiating, assisted by James Lampley and Milton Stanley.  Gravesite services were held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.  Mrs. Schultz was born in New Philadelphia, Ohio.  She was the daughter of Hubert Luther and  Sue Elizabeth Beasley Peery.  She graduated from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute.  She retired in 1982 from the Oak Ridge School System, having worked as a teacher at Woodland Elementary School.  Mrs. Schultz was a member of the New York Avenue Church of Christ.  She was also a very dedicated and active volunteer at the Methodist Medical  Center, achieving over 5,000 volunteer hours.  She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Neil B Schultz; a son, Dr. Richard Lang Schultz, and his and his wife, Barbara of Oak Ridge; a daughter, Kathy Sue Bauer and her husband, Michael, of Little Rock, Arkansas; a brother, Fred Beasely Peery, and wife, Lucy, of Guntersville, Alabama; six grand children and two great-grandchildren.  The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Methodist Medical Center Volunteers, 990 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or to the New York Avenue Church of Christ, 219 New York Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN, 37830.

Elise Marie Scott, 143 Troy Lane, died Friday, August 30, 2002 at her home.  She was 67.  Graveside services were held Sunday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m. in Napier Cemetery with Gloria Watts and Terry Bunch officiating.  Mrs. Scott was the daughter of the late Truman and Onie Bell Brake burns, born December 4, 1934 in Hickman County.  She was the owner of The Junk Store.  She is survived by her husband, James W. Scott of Hohenwald, a son, Ricky Scott of White House;  a daughter, Renita Tenry of Hohenwald, a brother, Donald Burns of White House; a sister, Jessie Derseweh of Greenbrier;  seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren,  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by brothers, Joe Nolan Burns, Clarence Burns, and twin brother Ellis Dee Burns, and a sister Jimmie Ahrens.

Annie Ruth Noble, 205 W. Loyce M Barber
Loyce Mae Barber, 64, of Darden, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Decatur County General Hospital.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 26 at 1:00 pm at the First United Pentecostal Church with Reverend Telford Tharp and Reverend Steve Burns officiating.  A graveside service was held at 4 pm at the Swiss Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Reverend Bobby Barber of Darden; two sons, James Lynch of Madison, Alabama, and Gregory Lynch of Olive Branch, Mississippi;  two step-sons, Bobby and Otto Barber of Collierville; one step-daughter, Anna Porter of Memphis; three brothers, Reverend Telford Tharp of Columbia, James Tharp of Kingsport, and Bill Tharp of Linden;  one sister, Evelyn Curtis of Mt. Pleasant;  three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Escar Tharp; first husband, Gilbert Lynch, and one sister, Betty Tharp.

Miller Juanita Tate
Miller Juanita Tate, Greenfield, died Thursday, November 21, 2002 at VanAyers Nursing Home in Martin.  She was 75.  The funeral was held Sunday, November 24, at 2:00 pm in Greenfield with Robert Archie, Richard Tate, and Kenneth Williams officiating.  Burial was in the Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield.  Mrs. Tate, daughter of the late Willie Jefferson and Miller Elizabeth Argo Walker, was born December12, 1926 in Trezevant.  She was a homemaker.  She is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Larry) Hazelwood of Dresden, Ginger (Robert) Archie of Greenfield, and Jo Ann (Joe) Konkol of Union City;  a son, Richard (Kathy) Tate of Hohenwald; a brother, Bobby Walker of Trezevant; six sisters, Wilodean Long, Darlene Walker, and Peggy Bateman of Trezevant, Onaric Akin of Bradford,,  Faye Akin of Milan, and Diane Gee of Dover;  seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carnell Tate. 

Pauline Crowell
Mary Pauline Crowell, Lawrenceberg, died Sunday, November 17, 2002 at her home.  She was 77.  The funeral was held t Neal Funeral Home in Lawrenceberg Tuesday, November 19 at 11:00 am with Terry Harris officiating;  Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Lawrence County.  Mrs. Crowell, daughter of the late Everett and Emma Voorhies Lyell of Lewis County, was born November 18, 1924 in Lyles.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Highland United Methodist Church.  She is survived by her husband, Howard Wilson Crowell of Lawrenceberg, a son, David W Crowell of Lawrenceberg; a daughter, Juanita Staggs of Waynesboro; two brothers, James Lyell of Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Abner Lyell of Hohenwald;  three sisters, Lucy Greer of Kingston Springs, Betty Ann Willis of Madison, and Louise Williams of Hohenwald;  three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  In additon to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Brawner and Sybil Osborn. 

Ann Hinson Corlew
Ann H Corlew, 212 West First Avenue, died Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the Life Care Center of Columbia after a short illness.  She was 88.  The funeral was held Sunday, November 24 at 2:00 pm at Hohenwald First United Methodist Church with Reverend Chip Hunter officiating.  Burial was in the Swiss Cemetery.  McDonald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Mrs. Corlew, the daughter of the late Chess and Lou Turnbow Hinson, was born June 28, 1914 in Hohenwald.  She was a retired teacher of the Lewis County School System.  She is survived by a son, Robert Corlew; an daughter-in-law, Patty Corlew; and grandchildren, Daryl and Matt Corlew, all of Mount Juliet.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Corlew; and sister Jessie Loveless.  

Mildred Tarkington
Mildred Elizabeth Tarkington, Summertown, died Sunday, November 24, 1001 at the Life Care Center of Columbia;  She was 85.  The funeral was held Tuesday, November 26, at 2:00 pm at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville with Perry Whittaker and Ed Brown officiating.  Burial was in the Campground Cemetery in Hickman County.  Mrs. Tarkington, daughter of the late Dorsey J and Frances Elizabeth Short Bates, was born July 17, 1917 in Hickman County.  She was a homemaker and a member of Summertown United Methodist Church.  She is survived by her husband, Richard Tarkington of Summertown;  four sons, Malcolm Tarkington of Huntsville, Alabama, Billy Tarkington of Linden, Gary Tarkington of Hohenwald, and Murray Tarkington of Columbia;  two daughters, Carol Walker of Hohenwald and Sherry Gore of Columbia; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three special friends, Ed Brown, Wilma Brown, and Angie Salvucci.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Brown Bates and two daughters, Sue Gail Burris and Patricia Ann Curtis.  

Garrey Nash, Jr.
Garrey Thomas Nash, Jr, 315 Baker Road, died Saturday, November 16, 2002 in Detroit, Michigan.  He was 23.  Graveside services were held Friday, November 22 at 2:00 pm at Swiss Cemetery with L C Loveless, minister of Gordonsburg Church of Christ, officiating.  Mr. Nash, son of Garrey Thomas and Darlene Dawn Clark Nash, Sr., was born February 14, 1979 in Detroit, Michigan.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Marcus and Marquise Nash of Hohenwald; a daughter, Miriah Nash of Hohenwald; a brother, Shawn Patrick Nash of Adrian, Michigan; four sisters, Dawn Marie Mary Columbie and Diana Lynn Fernandez of Detroit, Michigan, and Dawn Marie Nash II and Linda Gail Nash of Hohenwald; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Addie Bell Nash of Hohenwald.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Gladys Clark.

Mary M. O'Guin
Mary Magdeline O'Guin, resident of Lewis County Manor, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Perry Community Hospital.  She was 85  .Graveside services were held Tuesday, November 26, at 2:00 pm at the O'Guin Cemetery with Reverend Chip Hunter, pastor of Hohenwald United Methodist Church officiating.  McDonald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Miss O'Guin, daughter of the late Ezra and Mary Magdaline O'Guin, was born January 4, 1917 in Linden.  She is survived by several cousins.

Louise O'Rear
Louise Hines O'Rear, 90, known to many as "Moma O", died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at her residence following an extended illness.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 30 at 11:00 a, at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home in Columbia with Reverend Tony Brown officiating.  Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.  Memorials may be made to Hospice of Highland Rim, Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude's Hospital for Children of Jude's House for the families of sick children. A native of the Cross Bridges Community, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Rosabelle Holt Hines  She was married to John B O'Rear, who preceded her in death of December 26, 1994.  She was a devoted mother, homemaker, and a member of the Cross Bridges Baptist Church.  In 1932, she and her sister, Lucille Ray, began operating  a pie wagon on South Main Street in Columbia.  Later, they opened Louise and Lucille's Restaurant, which they operated until the end of World War II.  She and her sister, Edna Lyles, worked for years as cafeteria managers at the old Union Carbide Plant in Columbia.  Survivors include two daughter, Linda O'Rear of Columbia and Anita (A. J.) Williams of Fayetteville; one sister, Clarice (Ralph)  Ussery of Columbia; three grandchildren, Danny, Angie and Julia Williams;  several niece, nephews, and special friends, Kenny and Debbie Green.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Lucille, Ray, Mary Prince, Laura Griffin, Edna Lyles, and Elizabeth "Lib" Malugin;  and four brothers, Polk, Powell, Austin and Robert "Red" Hines, Jr.
