Seeking obituary, or newspaper article, related to Alfred F. HOLLEY. Alfred was born July 12, 1921 in Lauderdale County, AL. His date of death is unknown. He died in a terrible gas truck accident, sometime between 1943 and 1946. Alfred had to turn the truck quickly to avoid hitting another vehicle. The gas truck burst into flames and killed him. Alfred was married to Lillian PETTUS on December 25, 1942. Alfred listed his residence as Minor Hill, TN. Alfred was my father's brother.

I am looking for info on the family of Janes Roland COBB (b. 8/6/1860 in Fayette or Lamar Co., AL d. 5/23/26 in Lawrence Co., TN). He was married twice. The first time to Ann Eliza SMOTHERS (b. 12/14/1860 in SC d. 4/3/1905 in Winston Co., AL). His second wife was Mattie GLEATON (b. 12/1/1877 in GA d. 7/6/1951 in Lawrence Co., TN). In 1930, Mattie was listed as head of house hold with chldren: Arthur, Mollie, and Cecil. James had several children from both marriages. I am descended through his son William Thomas Cobb (b. 4/9/1886 in AL d. 8/9/1947 in Addison, Winston Co., AL). William's mother was James's first wife.

Actually these families originated in Wayne County,TN,Lawwrence,Lewis Counties TN., Researching my ALLEN/HAYES family in Lawrence County, Tn.and Texas. MY grandfather James Shelton "Shell" ALLEN, B. 19BT.Wayne Co.,Tn b. abt 1849. M. 1.to; Mary GIBSON; 28 July 1872,They had three in 1880 census children;Sarah,Lavonia, and James. John Wince ESTES and Mary MITCHELL married in Lauderdale County, Al in 1866. Their children were Joe, Annie, Tennie,Wince,Jr., and Aaron. WOLF CREEK, DIST 1 1860

Can anyone tell me where was Wolf Creek, Dist 1 in 1860 is on today's map. I understand that in 1860 the post office that served the Wolf Creek was Green Hill (Lauderdale County) Alabama. Can anyone confirm this? The Ephraim GRISHAM and Jordan DURBIN family lived there. The 1860 census also states a vacant home of Mary ATWELL and another vacant home of Charley ATWELL.

TOMB-ROCK INSCRIPTION

I am looking for information about MARY AMANDA DUNCAN. She was born in 1824 in Tennessee. From the 1850 Census record, it appears she had a younger brother, George W. Duncan, who was born about 1838. Mary Amanda married Abraham Helton in 1842 or 1843. They lived in Lawrence County, TN and had 3 children: Eliza Emeline b. 1844, married Jonas Crews in 1859; Frances Matilda b. abt 1855; William James b. abt 1850. She died in Lawrence Co., TN, in 1894 and was buried in the Buchanan-Crews Cemetery. She has been reinterred in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. I would like to know the names of her parents and her place of birth.

My grandmother, Mabel Pearl ADKISSON was born May 8,1895 in Wayland Springs,Lawrence Co, Tn. She died Oct 12 1991 in Tucson,Pima,Az. She was the d/o of William Jonas ADKISSON( b. Feb 2 1855 in Wayland Springs and d.Dec 18,1940)and Sarah Jane(Jamie) WILLIS(b.Nov 10, 1860 in Lawrence Co. Tn. and d.Jan 20, 1930). Both parents died in Savannah,Hardin Co. Tn. William and Jamie ADKISSON were married on Aug 7, 1879. I assume in Lawrence Co? If my only source is correct, Mabel ADKISSON'S siblings were Virgil S., Hawtie M., Ida B., James Walter,and Edgar Trew ADKISSON, all born between 1880 and 1889. It appears that all or most of her family moved to Hardin county Tn sometime after her birth. Mabel ADKISSON married Judge E Everett MABRY in Hardin Co Tn. They had one child, Raymond Earnest MABRY. I would appreciate a 1980 and/or 1990 Lawrence County Census lookup and any information anyone might have in regard to my grandmother and her parents, grandparents and siblings. Searching for desendants of Hardin Payne. Except from Godspeed's History of Lawrence Co., TN.... ... The first commissioners of the poor were Robert Hill, George Lucus and Robert Chaffin, who were appionted in 1820. In 1824 Mr. Lucas ,James Burns and Hardin Payne distributed $62 to the poor. JOEL B. DRAKE was in Lawrence Co. abt. 1851 and died there in 1881, buried in Neal Cemetery. Was married first to ELITIA MYRA BENTHAL abt. 1836-1840 in Giles Co. Married SUSAN WILLIAMSON BLACK, widow of ISAAC N. BLACK. After SUSAN'S death in Dec. 1861, he married ARTELIA FORT GOOCH, May 1862. He fathered at least 19 children. ELITIA JANE DRAKE, his first child to reach adulthood, married GEORGE W. WELCH in 1861. They were my gr. grandparents, and are buried in Neal Cemetery. Have recently been in contact with a DRAKE descendent from JOEL B.'S 3rd wife and he has info that the parents of JOEL B. DRAKE were LEWIS AND ELIZABETH CONWAY DRAKE. Has no proof, but this has been passed down to him by his father OSCAR DRAKE, JR., deceased. We would like to have any info about any of these family members or anyone connected to them. Looking for information on my great grandparents D. C. LEDFORD and his wife Jane. The D may have stood for Daulphis and the C may have stood for Columbus. They were living in Henryville, Lawrence Co, TN in 1931 at the time of the drowning of their son Thomas in Ohio. D.C. and Jane were believed to have had about ten children. D.C. was belived to have died 15 Dec 1936 and Jane believed to have died 23 Jan 1934.

KATHMAN, POLK

Marie Katharine Kathman was born in Florence, Alabama Jan. 17, 1902. She and her brother Louis were orphaned about 1905 and taken to St. Peter's Orphanage in Memphis by a Dr. Louis Polk. Does anyone know of any Kathmans that may have lived in Lawrence Co around 1905, or about this doctor?

LONG

LONG I am looking for a LONG family that resided in TN between 1833-1844 as this is the time that thier first children were born. The children; Elizabeth b:1833; James b:1835; Reuben b:1837; Polly b:1839; Catherine b:1841; Solomon b:1844. The mother is listed as an Alsy S. (spelling maybe different) and she is born in TN between @1816 according to her age on the 1850 census. She married an Edward Long b: @ 1810 and he is listed as being born in Alabama. The family should be listed on the 1840 TN census, but I have been unable to find them. I believe that the family may have left TN for KY or TX in 1844 as I find them in Texas in 1850. WILLIAMS

Inquiring about a Moses Williams that left the area around 1829/29 and traveled to Texas to claim property offered by the Mexican government. I'm sure he was part of the "Nashville Company", a group of families connected to Col. Sterling C. Robertson. Robertson and Stephen F. Austin recruited many families from TN to go and claim land.

TITTLE

I'm searching for information about my great-grandfather's brother, Timothy Dillard TITTLE, and his wife, Margaret Elizabeth (Bettie) RIGSBY. Timothy and Bettie were married in 1881 in Warren Co TN and moved to Lawrence Co TN sometime thereafter. Timothy died on 6 Jun 1919 in West Point, Lawrence Co. and is buried in the West Point Cemetery there. I don't know when Bettie died or where she is buried (also West Point cemetery?). Looking for a 4 year old boy in the 1860 census that is labeled in a 1860 census book as SHANUS, James(notation of questionable last name spelling)age 4 County Lawrence census handwritten page #210 & standard upper right hand corner page number 399.
