Mrs. Annie Childress, February 1949
Mrs. Annie Johnson Childress, 73 years old died yesterday morning at her
home in Ethridge, Tenn. of a heart ailment.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. today at the Ethridge Methodist church.
Burial will be in the Ethridge cemetery.
Mrs. Childress, widow of Eugene Childress, was a native of Indiana, but lived in
Lawrence county nearly all her life. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
She is survived by four daughters; Mrs. R. A. Brian, Nashville, Mrs. John
Thorne, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Mrs. Guy Tosh, Tokyo, Mrs. L. S. Hollis, Ethridge;
five sons; Alva, Charlie, and Ed Childress, Ethridge, Roy Childress,
Lawrenceburg, Earl, Washington Courthouse, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. I. M.
Brian, Ethridge, Mrs. E. S. Brian, Nashville, Mrs. Dora Wade, Birmingham, Ala.,
and three brothers, Frank, Sid and Morris Johnson Florence, Ala.

Death Comes to J. B. Crews Monday
J. B. Crews, well known and prominent citizen of
Lawrence county, died Monday at his home on the Waynesboro road, a few miles
west of Lawrenceburg, of pneumonia. He was 68 years of age and had lived
his entire life in the same community and was a splendid upright citizen.
Mr. Crews was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Crews, a
brother of the late Dr. Dan Crews and Miss Catherine Crews, and he leaves a
brother, Jonas, of Missouri. His wife, who was Miss Emma Blackwell,
before their marriage, survives him with the following children: J. B., Jr.;
Clifford, Arthur, Shirley, and Hardy [Harding].
A funeral service was held at Pleasant Grove church
near Red Hill on Tuesday at 11 o'clock followed burial in the cemetery nearby
on the Waynesboro road, with Freemon & Company funeral directors.
Rev. B. W. Blessing, a long time friend of Mr. and Mrs. Crews, preached the
funeral.
A large crowd attended, several going from
Lawrenceburg, some of the pall bearers being from this city. Mr. Crews
was a substantial farmer and christian gentleman and was interested in the
betterment of the community in which he lived, his county and state. He
was a familiar figure in Lawrenceburg and known to the citizens of the county
and town alike for his honesty of purpose and integrity. The county and
city has lost a splendid citizen, and the sympathy of all goes out to the
family in their bereavement.

Charles Clifford Crews, Sr., April 1991
Mr. Charles Clifford Crews, Sr., 77, of
Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away Friday, March 29, 1991, at
Hendersonville Hospital in Hendersonville after an extended illness.
He was a native of Lawrence County, a veteran of World
War II, a retired truck driver, and a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist
Church. He was the son of the late J.B. and Mary Blackwell Crews.
The funeral services were held on Monday, April 1,
1991, at Freemon-Pettus Funeral Home chapel. Burial was held at Pleasant
Grove Cemetery with Freemon-Pettus Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Crews,
Hendersonville; one son, Charles Clifford Crews, Jr., Elizabethtown, Kentucky;
one daughter, Sharon Fondelier, Dunkirk, Maryland; one brother, Harding Crews,
Lawrenceburg; four grandchildren; one step-grandson.

Lawrence's Oldest Ladies Dies
Second Oldest
Citizen
Mrs. Ollie
Ezell Comer, second oldest citizen of the Second District of Lawrence County,
died Monday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Littrell, East
Prairie, Mo. The body was brought to the home of her son, Jesse Comer, at
Loretto and funeral services were to be held this [Thursday] afternoon at 1
o'clock at Liberty Grove church, with the Rev. Henry Yeager officiating, and
burial in Bishop Chapel cemetary with the Osborn Funeral Home of Loretto
having charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Comer
was born January 26, 1863, in this county; she was the daughter of the late
Harb and Sinthia Potete Ezell, and granddaughter of William and Jemima Potete,
pioneer citizens of Lawrence County. The Potetes helped organize Second Creek
church on June 26,1830, and also played an important role in the first county
government during and following David Crockett's life.
Mrs. Comer
united with Missionary Baptist Church in early life. She was married to Daniel
Patrick Comer in 1883 and to this union eight children were born, one of whom,
Mrs. Vergie Marks, is deceased. She also had 5 step children, Mrs. Ettie
Johnson, Mrs. Dellie Murrell, Miss Laura Comer, Johnny and Taylor Comer, all
of, whom are deceased. She is survived by seven children, Mrs. Bertha Taylor,
of the Liberty Grove community; Mrs. John Littrell, of Missouri; Leslie Comer,
of East Prairie, Mo.; Crutcher Comer, of Russellville, Ala.; Jesse Comer, of
Loretto; Bob P. Comer, of this city, and Albert Comer of Indiana. She is also
suvived by 57 grandchildren, 116 great-grandchildren and twenty
great-great-grandchildren.

James Arthur Crews, March 1975
James Arthur Crews, 59, of 312 Deller St.
[Lawrenceburg, TN] was dead on arrival at Maury County Hospital. He
was the son of the late Jermiah [Jeremiah] B. and Mary Emma Blackwell Crews,
Sr., and was self-employed, Handle Manuf.
Funeral services were March 28, 1975, at North
Funeral Home with Rev. J.W. Potts officiating. Burial was in Pleasant
Grove Cemetery with North Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ava Dean Nix Crews,
Lawrenceburg, one daughter Mrs. Susan Gobble, City, five sons, Mack Crews,
Home, Jimmy, Jerry, and Travis Crews, City, Sonny Crews, Mt. Juliet, four
brothers, J.B. Crews, Shirley Crews, Harding Crews, all of Lawrenceburg and
Clifford Crews of Hendersonville, Tn and 13 grandchildren.

William S. Crews, February 1985
Mr. William Shirley Crews, age 66 of 2509 Waynesboro
Hwy., Lawrenceburg passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 1985 at Crockett General
Hospital after a short illness. He was a retired truck driver a veteran
a member of the Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge. He was the son of
the late Jeremiah Benjamin and Emma Blackwell Crews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 4, 1985 at
Freemon-Pettus Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bobby Gobble and William
Oakley officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Laura Crews, of
Lawrenceburg, one daughter Rose Lasater of Sebring, Florida, three sons Bill
Crews and Bob Crews of Lawrenceburg and Dan Crews of Shawnee, Ok., three
brothers J.B. Crews and Hardin [Harding] Crews of Lawrenceburg and Clifford
Crews of Henryville [Hendersonville], Tn. Nine grandchildren also
survive.
Freemon-Pettus Funeral Home was in charge of all
arrangements.

Harding Crews, December 1992
Mr. Harding Crews, age 71 of 725 Crews Road,
Lawrenceburg passed away on December 29, 1992 at Crockett Hospital. He
was a native of Lawrence County and the son of the late J.B. Crews, Sr. and
late Emma Blackwell Crews. He was a retired Truck Driver with Ryder
Truck Lines, retired farmer and member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist
Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta Hoffman Crews,
Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; two sons, Gary Crews, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; Stan
Crews, Nashville, Tennessee; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a
step-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive.
