James H. Edwards

Funeral services for James H. Edwards, 93, of Dickson, were held at 2 p.m.,Monday, Sept. 2, 1996, at the chapel of Dickson Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Talbert officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery, Hustburg.

Mr. Edwards died Sept. 1 at Horizon Medical Center. He was born Jan. 7, 1903, the son of the late Eddie Lee Edwards and Ida Jones Edwards.He was married to the late Almetta (Allie) Jackson. Mr. Edwards was a native of Dickson County and was a farmer and factory worker.He was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters, Jewel Blanchard, Rossie Burgess and Kathy Morzon, all of Dickson, and Margie Turner, Hammond, Ind. ; sister Alline Shepperson,Dickson; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren.

Ida Mae Etheridge

Ida Mae Ethridge, 78, of Denver, Tenn., died Saturday, October 24, 1981 at Green Valley Nursing Home in Dickson. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 26 at Ebenezer Methodist Church with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mrs. Ethridge was the daughter of the late Alonzo Ross Jackson and Louella Cravens Jackson. She was the widow of John Ethridge. She was a retired employee of the Waverly Garment factory and attended church at the First Pentecostal Church in Camden.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Clara Dean Wheeler, Memphis; Mrs. Almetta Edwards, Sylvia, Tenn.;Mrs. Bonnie Jane Damesworth,Gleason;two brothers, Carl Jackson, Denver, Tenn. and Max Jackson, Waverly, Tenn.

Ida Mae FLOWERS

Funeral services were held on December 27,1986 at Buckner's Dickson Funeral Home for Ida Mae Flowers of New Johnsonville. Mrs. flowers, age 75, died December 25 at Royal Care in Erin. Bro. Tommy Byrne officiated at the service with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery.

She was born in Humphreys County. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Ada Edwards Chappell.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Vivian Lashlee of Dickson, Joe Sterling, Mrs. Sue Vaughn, both of New Johnsonville; one sister, Mrs. Bernice Donegan of Dickson; four brothers, Glen Chappell, Clyde Chappell, Coy Chappell, all of New Johnsonville, Wade Chappell of Vanleer; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Jesse FLOWERS

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 26, 1986 at Luff- Bowen Chapel for Mr. Jesse Flowers of New Johnsonville. Mr. Flowers, age 65, died Wednesday, September 24, after an extended illness. Bro. Johnny Young of New Johnsonville officiated at the service with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. Luff -Bowen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Humphreys County and was a life long resident, except for service in the Army during World War II. He was retired from TVA,New Johnsonville, and received a Bronze Star during World War II. He was the son of the late Luke and Bessie Holley Flowers. He was married to Mrs. Frances Oakley Flowers of New Johnsonville.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Danny Ray Flowers, Roger Dale Flowers, both of New Johnsonville; one daughter, Miss Anita Joyce Flowers of Cookeville; three brothers, Robert Flowers of Obion, David Flowers of Port Arthur, Tx., Joseph Flowers of Waverly; and six grandchildren.

Joseph FLOWERS

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 2,1993, at Humphreys County Funeral Home for Joseph Flowers of Waverly. Mr. Flowers, 59, died September 1 after a lengthy illness. Brother Jim Revves officiated at the service with burial at Concord Cemetery. The Humphreys County Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Flowers was born in Humphreys County and had been a resident of Humphreys County for 15 years. Mr. Flowers was the son of the late Luke Flowers and Bessie Holly Flowers. He was married to Dorothy Jean Herndon Flowers. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Jackie of Calhoun; Joel of New Johnsonville, Melvin of Cleveland, and Christopher of Waverly; 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ouida Pearl FORRESTER

Ouida Pearl FORRESTER, 63 years old, passed away on April 1, 1999. Mrs. Forrester was a native of Lubbock, Texas and was married to Don Forrester of Hurricane Mills, TN, Humphreys County. Her parents, both deceased, were Frank and Olliie Mae Pierce Worley. Survivors besides her husband; sons, Billy Forrester, Waverly, Bobby Forrester, Easely, S.C., Gary Forrester and David Forrester both Hurricane Mills, TN; daughter, Patti Stewart, Waverly; brothers, David Worley, Athol, Idaho, Wayne Worley, Lubbock, Texas; sister, Frankie Minyard, Lubbock, Texas; 9 grandchildren. Memorial service was conducted at the Humphreys County Funeral Home.

Kimberly Shawn FOSTER

Kimberly Shawn Foster, 18, of New Johnsonville was pronounced dead on arrival at Benton Community Hospital following a traffic accident Thursday, July 6, 1989.Funeral services were held Sunday, July 9 at Stockdale-Malin Chapel with Bro. Roy Helms and Bro. Roger Hood officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Born Sept. 27, 1970 in Camden, she was the daughter of James L. Foster Jr. and Shirley A. Chappell Foster of New Johnsonville. In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Jonathan Shane Foster of New Johnsonville;Maternal grandmother, Tylene Chappell Runions of New Johnsonville; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Foster Sr. of Hollow Rock. She was also the granddaughter of the late Hugh Chappell of New Johnsonville.

Miss Foster was a student at Southeastern Freewill Baptist College in Wendell, North Carolina. She was working as a cashier at IGA in Camden during the summer. She was a member of Gorman Freewill Baptist Church.

Elizabeth  McKeel GARBER

Funeral services were held, November 6, 1987 at Luff Bowen Chapel for Elizabeth (Lizzie) McKeel Garber of Waverly.  Mrs. Garber, age 92, died November 4, 1987, after an extended  illness.
 
Rev. Robert Woodall of White house and Rev. Chris joiner of Waverly officiated at the service, with burial at Cragg Cemetery.  Luff Bowen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 
She was born in Humphreys County and spent most of her life in the county.  She was an elder and member of Mariah Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
 
She was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Mary Helena Forrest Warden.  She was married to the late William L. Garber.
 
She is survived by two sons, George McKeel, Kingston Springs, Tn., Edward McKeel, Waverly, Tn., Five daughters, Mary Williams, Gladys Garber, both of Waverly, Lois Penn, Peru, Ind.,Mary Jane Cathey,New Johnsonville, Tn., Peggy Wollum, Trenton, Mich; one sister, Nellie carter,Manchester; 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Walter Bruce Goodloe

GOODLOE - Walter Bruce Goodloe, 99, passed away October 15, 1998. Mr. Goodloe was a native of Waverly, TN, worked for the Citizen's National Bank of Waverly, the E.I. Dupont powder plant in Nashville and for 13 years with the Nashville Banner before joining The Florida Times-Union on September 15, 1925 as a National Advertising Salesman. He succeeded J.M. Elliot as National Advertising Manager and later was named Retail Advertising Manager. He served 41 years !d of directors of the Gator Bow l Association, and a member of the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce and its Committee of 100. A member of Riverside Presbyterian Church. Mr. Goodloe was preceded in death by his wife, Elouise in 1988, and is survived by his daughter, Mrs. James O. Sewell (Dorrald) and her husband James; 2 grandchildren, Charles Edward Sewell and his wife Libby, and Susanne Dorrald Sewell; and 2 greatgrandchildren, James Allen Sewell, and Rebecca ElizabethSewell

HOLMES, Joanna Faith

Funeral services for infant Joanna Faith Holmes, age 6 days, were conducted Saturday, March 27, 1999, from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, with Bro. Stan Ham officiating. Burial was at Harpeth Hills Memory Garden in Nashville. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Infant Holmes died March 24 at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville. Survivors include her parents, Tim and Lisa Holmes of Dickson; a brother, Jonathan Reeves of Dickson; two sisters, Lydia Holmes and Kristen Holmes, both of Dickson; maternal grandparents, Robert C. and Jane Moore of Dickson; paternal grandparents, James D. and Margaret Smith Holmes of Chestertown, Md.; and great-grandparents, Price and Minnie Moore of Baghdad, Ky.

Obituary of Dr. W. R. Horner, Humphreys County, TN

Dr. W. R. Horner, Waverly's Oldest Citizen, DiesWaverly, Tenn., April 24--(Special)--Funeral services were scheduled this afternoon for Dr. William Russell Horner, 96, Humphrey County's oldest citizen, at Bascom Church, with Elder Russell Scott of Murray, KY., officiating, assisted by Elder Cecil Davis. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery.

Dr. Horner died Saturday night at his home here following a long illness. A native of Perry County, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Patterson Horner. He moved to Humphreys County in 1878.

When a young man he taught in Perry County schools, later enrolling as a medical student at the University of Nashville. He began practicing medicine in 1878, serving as a general practitioner until 1936, when he retired from active duty. He was believed to be the oldest doctor in the state.

Dr. Horner had been a member of Primitive Baptist Church since boyhood. His wife, the former Miss Amanda Frances Pace, whom he married in 1869, died several years ago.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lauretta Morgan, Waverly, Mrs. Leila Warren, Nashville, and Mrs. Wiley McKeel, Barberton, Ohio; three sons, Charlie, McEwen, Willliam I, Washington D.C., And J. F. Horner, Waverly; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, J. F. Horner, Centerville, and two sisters, Mrs. Betty Nix, Linden, and Mrs. Viola Pope, Luray.
