Halbrooks and Woods Houses

The Joe Halbrooks house (top), built in the early 1900s, for many years was the oldest structure within Natchez Trace State Park. This house was representative of the traditional "farmhouse" style of houses built by residents after they got away from log structures. The historic house burned March 24, 1994.

Leroy Woods bungalow house (bottom) was built circa 1921 on the site of his previous house which was destroyed by fire. This bungalow style became very popular in the area and replaced the traditional "farmhouse" style of the Joe Halbrooks house. Mr. Ephraim Alexander (Eph) Autry from Wildersville, a popular local carpenter, probably built this house. Many houses from this period still survive in Henderson County. The Leroy Woods house burned March 24, 1994.
