State of Tennessee Henderson County I Levi McEwen Clerk of the County Court of said County Certify that the foregoing is a true copy of the marriage record of Carter Latham and Rhoda Britt as the name appears of record now in my office in Book No. 1 and that I am the sole custodian of the marriage records of said County, give under my hand and seal of office this 10th day of April 1868. Widow application for Pension Declaration State of Tennessee Henderson County On this 12th day of October 1865 personally appeared before the Clerk of County Court Rhoda Latham a resident of Civil District No Ten in the County of Henderson, and State of Tennessee age forty-one years, who first being dually sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefits of the provisions made by the Act of Congress approved July 14, 1862: That she is the wife of Carter C. Latham who was a Private in Company “A: Commanded by Lieut Alexander T. Hart, in the Seventh Regiment of Tenn Vol Cavalry in the war of 1862, and who died at Andersonville, Ga, on the tenth day of Sept. 1864, of Disease that she was married to the said Carter C. Latham on the 15th day of August 1845; that she knows of no record of her marriage. The following children were born of said marriage and are still living: James F. Latham born 11th March 1854 and John T. Latham born 10th April 1856, Mary Latham born Nov 30th 1858, Nancy E. Latham born 20th Nov 1861, and Winfield S. Latham born April 30 1863. Aged respectively the record of said marriage was destroyed in the burning of the Court House at Lexington Tenn. She hereby appoints Lucher and Sells of Washington D. C. her lawful attorney and authorize them to present this claim and to receive as a receipt for any moneys or orders that may be issued or paid in satisfaction thereof. Declarant makes this application for a pension under the above mentioned act and refers to the evidence filed herewith and that in the proper department to establish her claim. She also declares that she has not in any way been engaged in or aided or abetted the rebellion in the United States, that she is not in the receipt of a pension under the 2nd Section of the Act above mentioned or under any other act, nor has she again married since the death of the said Carter C. Latham, her husband. Her post office address is Lexington, Tenn. Rhoda Latham (her mark) Witness, A.S. McAllister and T. Moyers Also personally appeared Thomas A. Smith and Jasper N. Teague, residents of _________, persons who I certify to be respectable and entittled to credit, and who being by me duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Rhoda Latham sign her name to the foregoing declaration and they further swear that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of the application and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be. Teague Sworn to and subscribed before me this 12th day of October 1865, and I hereby certify that I have no interest direct or indirect in the prosecution of this claim. Witness my hand and the seal of said county and I also certify that said declaration was read over to applicant before she signed her name or made her mark there to. L. C., January 3, 1866 Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 113.884, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office. It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that Carter C. Latham was enrolled on the 11th day of Sept, 1862, at Jackson Tenn in Co. “A”, Calvary Regiment of Tenn Cav Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a Private on the 28th day of August 1862, at Jackson Tenn Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war. On the Muster Roll of Co. “A” of that Regiment, for the months of July & August 1863, he is reported Died at Trenten, Tenn November 16th, 1862 Cause not stated.
