AN OLD VETERAN GOES TO HIS REWARD

William Lewis Frizzell, Aged 90 Years, Died in Scott, Mississippi

Death ended the useful career of Williams Lewis Frizzell, aged 90 years, 7 months and 28 days, at the home of his grandson, A.E. Derryberry, in Scott, Miss., Thursday afternoon, October 16th at 1 o'clock. The end was not unexpected as he had been an invalid for some weeks resulting from a stroke of paralysis. With him when the end came were his daughter, Mrs. Georgia Ann Griggs, and Mr. Derryberry and family.

He was born near Chesterfield, Henderson county, Tenn., on Feb. 18th, 1834. His marriage to Miss Matilda C. Caviness occured on Jan. 4th, 1854. She passed into the blissful, beyond on Sept. 7th, 1899. To them were born twelve children, seven boys and five girls. Of these children the following survive their good parents: Alex L. Frizzell of Weslaco, Texas, Mrs. Georgia Ann Griggs of Scott, Miss., W.G. Frizzell of Chesterfield, J.H. Frizzell of Chickasha, Okla., Curry C. Frizzell of Lane, Okla., J.I. Frizzell of Jackson, Tenn., and Mrs. Mae Snyder of Dallas, Texas. He also leaves 39 grandchildren, 28 great-grand children and a wide circle of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. The children who preceded their father to the grave are Mrs. Clara Frances Williams, Mrs. Mary Rosetta Owens, Mrs. Martha Ella Inscore, Thomas Grant Frizzell and James Sanders Frizzell.

True and loving husband, devoted father, charitable neighbor, affectionate grandfather, upright citizen, loyal church member and genuine christian, earth's sad loss is heaven's great gain. A life-long farmer and Republican, he led a very active life until disabled by the encroachments of age. For a long term of years he was an influential magistrate in the county and made valuable contribution in wise counsel and active service for the promotion of the well-being of the common-wealth. He leaves to his posterity a name and the memory of a life of which they may well be justly proud.

In young manhood he professed christianity and in 1854 united with Bear Creek Baptist church, Decatur county, later moved his membership to Pleasant Grove church, Henderson county, and finally to Union church, Henderson county, with which he continued to be identified until death. He had been clerk of the Union church since April, 1884, a period of 40 years.

The remains were shipped to Chesterfield Saturday, accompanied by Mrs. Georgia Ann Griggs and A.E. Derryberry of Scott, Miss., and J.I. Frizzell of Jackson, Tenn., and funeral services were conducted in Union church at 1 p.m., by Revs. Fleetwood Ball, W.F. Boren, C.E. Azbill and G.W. Kolwyck in the presence of a large crowd. The body was laid to rest in the adjacent cemetery under a mound of beautiful flowers in a grave beside that of his wife.
