Welcome to the Haywood County TNGenWeb site!
Please bear with us as we make updates and additions to this site with the hope we will aid your research success in Haywood County.
Located in the heart of the Tennessee Delta, Haywood County is in the state’s Western Grand Division. The county was created in 1823 from ceded Chickasaw Indian lands and named in honor of John Haywood (1762-1826), who held many titles: North Carolina Superior Court and Tennessee Supreme Court judge; author of Civil & Political History of Tennessee; and father of Tennessee history.
The county seat is Brownsville. The county is bordered by Crockett, Madison, Hardeman, Fayette, Tipton, and Lauderdale counties.
The goal of this site is to provide you with FREE genealogical resources for your family history research. The former Coordinator, Jane Patterson, has retired. In the interim, Haywood County native and TNGenWeb Board Member Bettye Seaton Liberty is maintaining this site. Click here to e-mail her.
