ARMINA RAMSEY was born August 27, l826, died at Pine City, Wash., July l0, l923, being at the time of her death, 96 years, l0 months and l0 days old. She was united in marriage to ANDERSON EDWARDS in the year of l849 and immediately moved to Iowa. To this union there were born eight children, six of whom are living to mourn her loss: MRS. CHRIS FOLAND; MRS. W.H. YOUNG and THOMAS EDWARDS, all of Grand River, Iowa; JOSIAH EDWARDS and MRS. A.E. DAVIS, of Pine City, Washington; and MRS. JAMES JENNINGS, of St.. John, Washington.
Her life was one of many moves, her husband being of a roving nature, moving from Iowa to Oregon in l875, leaving the three older girls, who were married at that time, residing in Oregon five years, decided to then move to Washington at that time a new country just settling up. She had to repeat the hardships that she had undergone in Iowa. She has resided in Washington 25 years and the part of the family that had gone with her and those being married and settled down. In l905, MRS. FOLAND and husband visited the World's Fair at Portland, Oregon, and on their return trip visited the relatives in Washington. MRS. FOLAND prevailed on her coming back to have her spend her last days in Iowa, which she decided to do remaining in Iowa until the fall of l9l5. During that year her son and daughter of Washington, came to Iowa on a visit and she decided to return with them, being at that time 89 years old, and spend her remaining years. Despite her advanced age, she was able to !
wash dishes and make her own bed, waiting upon herself up to within five days before her death.
She was laid to rest in the Pine City Cemetery beside her husband, with a large concourse of friends to mourn her loss. She united with the church at the age of l7 and always lived a consistent Christian ever afterwards, loved by all her many friends, who greeted her as Grandma EDWARDS.

ON December 31, 1879, George Hopkins (GH) appeared before the DeputyClerk
of the Bell Circuit Court at the age of 54 and filed a DECLARATION FOR
ORIGINAL INVALID PENSION.(his Post Office address is given asCallaway, Bell
County). He states that he was a Corporal in Company E of the 49thRegiment
of the KY Volunteers commanded by Col. J.G. Eve. He was enrolled onJuly 20,
1863 and was honorably discharged at Lexington, KY on December 26,1864. He
is described as 5'10" in height with fair complexion and hair and blueeyes.
While at Camp Nelson (Sept. 15, 1863) he became ill. A few monthslater he
became ill again at Somerset, KY and was cared for there at theRegimental
Hospital under the care of Henry C. Miller, Sergeant of Regiment. Theclaim
is witnessed by Wilson B. Saylor and John. A. Watkins.
Paperwork from the Adjutant General's Office dated, March 20, 1882,reports
that GH was enrolled on July 20, 1863 at Harlan Co. and was reportedon the
Muster Roll at Camp Nelson, KY as a Corporal on Sept. 20, 1963 throughFeb.
29, 1864. March and April 1864 he is found as present with the remark
"Deserted April 4, 1864 at Camp Burnside". May and June 1864 name notthere.
July & Aug 1864 present, with remark " to forfeit 1 month pay forabsence
without leave from April 4 - July 9, 1864". Present to Oct 31, 1864and as a
Private, Dec 26, 1864. According to another paper from the AJ'soffice he
was court-martialed for his desertion, found guilty and sentenced toforfeit 1
months pay. Proceedings were approved by Major General Burbridge.

was not previously married. He lists his living children and theirages as

Elizabeth Hopkins (EH) appeared to the clerk in Harlan Co. and appliedfor
her widows pension. She states her age as 73(this would make herbirthdate
about 1828) and her residence as Layman PO, Harlan Co. She statesthat she
is the widow of GH (his service dates are again confirmed), that hewas
honorably discharged on Dec. 26, 1864, at Lexington, KY. She alsostates
that he died on Nov. 18, 1901 of liver disease, epilepsy and chronicdiarrhea
(note: these are the same ailments for which he was treated duringhis
service) at his home in Harlan Co. She further states that she wasmarried
to GH as Elizabeth Saylor, on Nov. 26, 1844 or 1846 by John Jones,Justice of
the Peace at Martin Saylor's house. Her attorney in the matter wasE.M.
Howard of Baxter, KY. A General Affidavit was given on her behalf bySally
Saylor, age 68 and Nancy Osborn, age 71 on January 3, 1902. In the
Affidavit, they confirm what EH had already stated in her application.
Additionally, they state that they were present at the marriageceremony of
GH & EH at Martin Saylors house. The document closes with the factthat
Sally Saylor is a sister to EH. The document is witnessed by HBHoward and
Mollis Howard and was notarized by EV Fee.
