DEA / DEAS / DEE /DEES / DEESE

Elaine Sun Apr 9 13:29:20 2006
I am searching for death/burial information for James DEES. He was born abt. 1833-1834. On one census the place is listed as TN, the other is NC, and I think it is possibly Illinois. He was a Civil War soldier in the CSA 4th Tennessee Infantry, Co. E. In the TN Regimental Histories, I found a James DEES in CO. E listed as died at Chattanooga in 1862. Co. E was men primarily from Obion, TN, but I have been unable to find any death/burial info there. I thought he might have been buried in the Chattanooga area. Are there any CSA cemeteries around there? I would appreciate any info or suggestions anyone may have.

I am looking for any information on the W.A. MOORE family listed in the 1860 US census for Hamilton Co, Dwelling No 767, Family No 771. My Great Grandfather is William Alexander MOORE, whom I believe to be the son listed as William A MOORE in this census. There are "MOORE" families listed in the 1830, 1840 and 1850 US census indexes for Hamilton Co, but I do not have access to these census to read the names. Any assistance is very welcome. According to William Alexander MOORE, my G Grandfather, both of his parents died during the Civil War, and his family owned property in Chattanooga (?). He migrated to Cotton Plant AR, where he became the Mayor / undertaker / saloon owner, etc., then migrated to California around 1904. He was first married to MA JOHNSON on 8-14-1878 then to Mamie Manerva FARRAR.

SINGLETON - GAWF / GOFF - MIDDLETON - POOL

Donna Sun Apr 23 16:30:30 2006
Trying to find out if Leonard SINGLETON that is on 1850 census of Hamilton co, TN is same person listed on 1860 Henderson Co, TN census. Leonard SINGLETON is listed in 1850 census of Hamilton co, age 16, living with James SINGLETON and Susan, both born in NC.

There is a Leonard SINGLETON that appears in 1860 12th district of Henderson Co living with wife Marilda (GAWF) and children Robert H, Mary A, and probably a niece Rebecca age 20. Next door is SterlingSINGLETON, age 41, wife Susannah, daughter Sarah. Rebecca according to other census is Sterling SINGLETON's daughter.

Leonard SINGLETON enlisted in 7th regiment TN Union Calvary Co K. on Sept 1, 1863, age 27. He died in Annapolis MD on Dec 13, 1864. There was also a James P. SINGLETON , age 19, born Hamilton Co, TN that enlisted the same day as Leonard SINGLETON, mustered out on 08/09/1865.
Leonard SINGLETON's wife Marilda remarried to a Joshua POOL in 1868.
Guardianship of Leonard's children was given to Edmond GAWF (GOFF), Marilda's father in 1869.
Leonard SINGLETON and Marilda GAWF (GOFF) SINGLETON's children are: Robert H, b:oct 9, 1856, (wife Mary); Mary A, b: June 4, 1859 and James, b. Feb 28, 1863.(I believe this James could be my G grandfather that married Sallie MIDDLETON)

I believe this Leonard SINGLETON, born abt: 1835 may be the same Leonard SINGLETON, from Hamilton Co, Tn . Father possibly being a James SINGLETON and mother Susan.

ZAUGG / ZAOGG

Lori Z Dubay Sun May 7 07:21:30 2006
Transcription spellings variate but the family retained the 2nd g. One census entry transcribed as ZAOGG. Seeking any information on the ZAUGG family that resided in Hamilton County per 1920 Census - part of 2nd district. Family list - Head John (also known as William), Wife Louisa (maiden ? HOFFMAN or HUFFMAN? h of something?), two sons - William Raymond ZAUGG and Stanley Briton ZAUGG, and one daughter - Geraldine ZAUGG (actually Jeraldine but that what the census taker wrote).

John/William - William/John? worked at a Ginning Co and lists his father as being from Switzerland and spoke French, his mother from Sweden - speaking Swedish. John states he was born in TN. Louisa lists herself and her parents being born in TN. William Raymond ZAUGG was my grandfather - who passed in DC in 1955, as well as Stanley year unknown. Both William and Stanley were pharmacists and may have attended school in TN - possibly the University of Chattanooga of which I have an early undated postcard of. Very little information is available on ZAUGG lineage to TN and we are seeking John/William's and Louisa's parents names, location, naturalization etc. if available anywhere. Also interested in any degrees for William Raymond and Stanley. There is some possible info that some of the family came from Franklin County to Hamilton. Thank you

I cannot find DOB for either and my grandmother's date of death was July 19th 1984 and grandfather's death was somewhere between 1979 to 1982. There is no solid headstone and I would like to place one there, but I need more information before I do that.
