The RESEARCH ROOM for GILES County Tennessee, TNGenWeb

Welcome Friend,

Pull up a chair as I guide you through the history of Giles County.  My recommended starting point for beginning researchers who's family hails from Tennessee.  Even if you are not a beginner, if you've been hunting and pecking for some time, I welcome you to learn about the great States of Tennessee through it's history, it conception, and it's geographical formation, in order for you to better understand why your ancestors may have settled or passed through here.

When I began research in 2000, the TNGenWeb was a salvation to my sanity.  I didn't know the first thing about it's history, but as I learned it, it became much easier for me to navigate through counties in search of my ancestors.  It finally made sense to me why one family was in a census for Bedford county one time, then 10 years later were in Marshall.  The county was established from Bedford, thus my family stayed in their home, which became Marshall County.  That is just one example.

Please understand that the internet is only what we make it.  I do not live in Giles County Tennessee, or in the state of Tennessee for that fact.  I live in Michigan.  I do not have access to the TSLA records, or county records.  I can, through the internet, point you to the right places to aid in your search.  I may even have a researcher who will look up information in a book for you.  But this is just a starting point.  There are hundreds of records available by microfilm rental, etc, that will help you tear down your brick walls.

Good Luck, and Enjoy!
