Houston Biographies
B. F. HOUSTON [of Lincoln County], oculist and aurist of Petersburg,
was born in Marshall County, Tenn., September 11, 1852. B. F. Houston,
father of our subject, was born in Tennessee in 1807, and was a farmer by
occupation. He died February 1, 1862. He was married to N. B.
Usery, who was born in 1813 in Giles County, and died in
November, 1878. Our subject was educated at the Mooreville Institute
under Prof. Burney. September 11, 1872, M. A. Elliott, who was
born in Franklin County December 9, 1850, became his wife. They kept a
boarding house at Louisville two years, and then returned to the old
home and he began taking charge of his mother's farm. In 1874 he
began the study of medicine, but on account of weak eyes was obliged
to abandon the study for some time. In 1879 he moved to Petersburg,
and after a time went to Florence, Ala., and took special instruction
on the eye and ear under the well known doctor, A. M. Parkhill, and
now has an extensive practice in Lincoln, Marshall and the adjoining
counties, also a number of counties in Alabama adjoining the State.
He has acquired a reputation, especially in the treatment of the eye.
He and wife are members of thec Christian Church. (Goodspeed's
