DICKSON, TENNESSEE
Dickson Digger Team
I am Cher, the TnGen County Coordinator for this website, and list owner for the TNDickson email list.
I am a Baby Boomer.
My parents were the World War II vintage ~can do kind of people. During much of their lives, they "did it themselves or did without"... Because they were determined and resourceful, we didn't do without much! Both, Mother and Dad were very good at fixin' and makin'. They had lots of energy and imagination. Fortunately... for me, I have inherited those traits. Whether it was in my genes or me being a product of my environment... is for someone else to determine. I still get great pleasure from repairing or 'sprucing up' something myself. As a result... I have better than average skills at many things ( probably the master of none). But, because I do enjoy planting', painting', and fixing', I would like to believe that I have created a few things that are unique ...and maybe extraordinary.I have at least 5 generations of family born in the DICKSON area. The importance of family and respect for my traditions were instilled in me at a very early age-by both of my parents. My mother and her Grandmother, Fannie Louise (DUGGER) WILSON, had birthdays Nov. 25th and 24th. Often, this cosmic event would place one of them on Thanksgiving. That would make for a festive occasion!. For many autumns, Mother, Dad and I found our way to Wilson Hollow to be there for that mega-event! We'd celebrate Mother's, and Mammie WILSON's birthdays AND Thanksgiving! The whole community seemed to gravitate to Mammie's home for this holiday! Whether it was raining, cold or warm...it didn't matter...her 4 room clapboard house would be busting at the seams with people... spilling out onto the porches eating, laughing, and hugging. I was a sponge. I could tell the importance of these people and their place in our lives...I was happy here.
Loved.
As with all families, time takes it's toll. The Old-timers were "called home". My Mother and Dads' generation have become the new Old-timers... The trips have become fewer and farther apart. With less folks to see...and more to remember. That is the purpose of my genealogical search and this website. To help us all remember!
To have a truly Great site, we believe it takes a team effort. We have that. The entire list of TnDickson actively participates on this website. Each contributor is acknowledged on the page(s) he or she donated... Several super Sluths have volunteered and have taken on the responsibility of various long term projects. The folks that have accepted the responsibility for these projects are biographied below. It is the least we can do to give them just some of the recognition they deserve.
Cher
Chief Digger
Hi, I am Mollie Simpson, "Mean Lil' Assistant" to the Chief Digger. I was born in Nashville, Tennesse but my Dickson Roots run deep. Both my parents; were born in Dickson, as were their parents. My fathers side of the Family came from Pennsylvania to Dickson in the 1860's , the surnames going from Sager to Black to Bruce to Tipton.. I have not been able to trace very far back on my mother's side, but her maiden name was Choate , her father's mothers maiden name was Reithmaier.
I am a LPN that has gone thru burnout so I was a dipatcher for AAA, also did customer service for a Cell phone company. I have 2 sons 18 & 26 and 3 lovely grandchildren; Austin, Hannah, and Tyler.
The Genealogy Bug bit me about 10 to 15 years ago and I haven't quit since, only hit several brick walls which will come tumbling down one day. The Dickson Web Page has helped me locate numerous cousin. My other love is computers, I am self taught (what little I know) and love doing web pages.
I created and maintain the Surname page and help to maintain the website as a whole. I also do Cemetery work, creating s webpages for TnDickson. In Cher's absence I act as a moderator to the TnDickson list, and am the Co-Coordinator for the Webpage.
I was born in Clarksville, Montgomery Co., TN. I was raised in the Clarksville area. I am married with two children and 3 grandchildren Hobbies & Interests: Genealogy, Books (read anything except "romance novels"), sewing, crafts, animals, gardening, "collectables"---the list is too long! I have long been a researcher on the TnDickson email list and an active genealogist. This brought me to being a major contributor to this website, and to becoming the "Link Hound" for the TnDickson email list. As a "Link Hound", I surf the web for Websites, investigate them and post them regularly to the list.
Janet Shadowens, "Dickson Herald Cub Reporter". Janet had permission from The Dickson County Herald, to post Obituaries, and Reunions on our site for the convenience of our Dickson Researcher.
I am Janet Shadowens,of Dickson County TN. I live on a farm, raising cows, rabbits and chickens. I am happily married with 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 1 GREAT grandchild. I have been working with genealogy for several years and submit the obits and reunions for the TNGenWeb.
I live in Springfield,IL. I raise and show Persian Cats and in my "spare time" I'm the Executive Director of a social service agency that rescues abused, neglected and homeless kids.
I grew up in a family of five children(four brothers)and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Grandparents. Our house was the family gathering place and Sunday diner was never for less than twelve people and usually was for thirty or more. I grew up hearing stories and tall tales about the family before I could walk and talk. In addition, my mother and father had a wide circle of friends so our house was always full of people. My Mom is a great cook and can feed ten on 30 minutes notice.
My education is in Anthropology so my genealogy 'diggin' comes naturally. I broke my shoulder while roller blading on my 65th birthday and the recovery time allowed me the time to start building my family tree. Most of my ancestors are from Dickson County, so naturally the Dickson County Site was the first site and the first mailing list that I got on when I started my search for ancestors.
I have had the good fortune to meet a lot of nice people while looking for my ancestors and they all helped me with advice, data, pedigrees and more. I met eight new cousins I did not know existed and learned of family ties as far away as Scotland and Germany. The amazing thing to me is that I never left home to accomplish this. I did it all on the Internet. As the "Dickson Book Digger", I surf the web and other resources for any resourse books available on Dickson Tennessee and post them on the web page that I maintain. I also maintain the Great Links page on our website. It contains other Websites that have Dickson County information.
