In the name of God amen the first day of April in the year one thousand seven hundred and Ninety three I Alexander WARD of Jefferson County and Territory of the United South of the Ohio being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks to God for it and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it. my body I recommend to the dust to be burried in a decent christian manner at the discretion of my executor nothing doubting but I shall receive the same against the general resurrection. And as touching the worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give, demise, and dispose of in the following manner and form VIZ. Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my beloved son David my claim of land whereon I now live south of French broad containing three hundred acres reserving to my beloved wife Mary a decent living out of the benefits of said claim of land during her widowhood. Also I do order that my two daughters Phebe and Rachael have their maintenance out of the benefits of said land wilst they live single. Also I give and bequeath unto my son David my Gun & sword my Saddle and bridle.
Likewise I do order that the remainder of my estate to be equally divided amongst my wife and children. And Lastly I constitute and appoint John WARD my Executor of this my Last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this first day of April One thousand seven hundred and Ninety three

This day came James Turner before me Thomas Snoddy, one of the Justices of the Peace for said County, and [sworn] oath that the above account as Stated against Robert Turner deceased is Just and that he hath given said Robert all just credits to the best of his knowledge.

JOHN GILLILAND

In the name of God Amen I John Gilliland of the County of Jefferson territory of the United States South the river Ohio being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory and knowing it is appointed for all en once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is principally and first of all I resign my soul into the hand of Almighty God who gave it me, and my body I recommend to the earth to be burried at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the great day of Judgment when the secrets of all hearts shall be revealed I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, And my worldly estate I give and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

Imp.  I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Elizabeth Gilliland all and every part of my household furniture, also one equal third part of my stock, also one third part of the rents after all my debts are paid to be at her disposal during her natural life for the supporting and tuition of those that are of nonage, but at the day of her death to dispose to the Legatees as she shall see cause.

Imp.  I give and bequeath unto my son Robert sixty pounds out of the revenue at the end of three years after the end of the lease to be in property at the Judgment of two men.

Imp.  I give and bequeath unto my son John the island at the upper end of the premises and as much of the backland adjoining as will make it an equal allotment with the rest of the Legatees to enter into possession of the premises at the end of the lease provided he pays in proportion to the Legatees if any due.

Imp.  I give and bequeath unto my son James all my wearing apparel over and above his equal proportion with the rest of the Legatees.

Imp.  I give and bequeath unto my daughter Priscilla, my son James, my daughter Mary, my son Alb, my son Harvey, my son Isaac, my son Eli, my son Josiah all and every part and tract of my land except my son John's part or portion of land to be equally divided amongst the above mentioned Legatees my son Robert Gilliland excepted to be laid out in equal lotts in quality and quantity by two or three disinterested persons to be nominated by Joseph Hamilton & John McNabb or John Gilliland Jun.r or any two of them the Legatees to draw lotts out in their equal portions, and that Executor hereafter mentioned to make deeds to the Legatee.

Imp.  And it is my will and desire that my Grandson John Welch shall have one hundred Dollars impended in education provided he lives with the family until of age or at such place as the Executors shall choose. Also this my will that the different deed or deeds be made to the Legatees above mentioned on or before the end of the lease.

I hereby make and ordain my worthy friends Joseph Hamilton and John Gilliland Executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said John Gilliland have to this my last will and testament set my hand & seal this 24th day of March 1795 Signed sealed published and declared by the said John Gilliland the testator as his last will and testament in the presence of us who were present at the signing and sealing thereof.

We Joseph Hamilton and John McKnabb two of the Persons appointed by the Last will and Testament of John Gilliland Senr. deceased to nominate and appoint two disinterested Persons for the purpose of dividing the Lands belonging to the Estate of the said John Gilliland do appoint John Shields and Sam.l Jack for that purpose to divide and lay off said Lands in equal allotments in quality and quantity and agreeable to the Last Will and Testament of the said John Gilliland Sen.r deceased.

And as touching the worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this lie, I give demise and dispose of in the following manner & form. First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife one bay Horse and saddle, all my pewter, one bed and furniture, also her living during her widowhood of the benefits of my claim of land on Bigg Pigeon. Secondly I give and bequeath my lands to my sons Cyrus and John to be equally divided betwixt them. Thirdly I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary all the remainder of my estate. And lastly I do constitute and appoint John MCFARLAND, Alexander RODGERS & David STUART Executors of this my last will and testament.
