BACK TO RECORDS                              MINUTES BOOK TWO

Book # 1 - November 16, 1844 to July 21, 1877

The UNITED BAPTIST CHURCH OF CHRIST at Butler’s Meeting House was formed by: Ruthann Murr, Jacob Click, Mary Norris, Mary Click, Henry Murr, Violet Hartsell, Elizabeth Lax, Mary Lane, William Holoway, Reece Murr, Jesse C. Holoway, Henry Holoway, William C. Holoway, Elizabeth Holoway, Elender Holoway, Emma Holoway. Pastor Elder Y. J. Morris (1803--1899) was also a medical doctor.

The 2nd church house was built on the McGaha Chapel Road, just past the Yellow Springs Road turn-off. They built a house 40 feet by 30 feet, between the Jacob Templin and Morris Hartsell properties. They selected the Name “UNION” for the Church on November 3rd, 1848. This building is gone. They built the 3rd church house across the road, where the Parsonage now stands, on property donated by the Templins; this building is also gone. They built their present church building on property donated by the Byrds.

Meetings were adjourned from Saturday, April 1st, 1863 until Saturday July 3rd, 1865, by reasons of National Difficulty (Indian uprisings, when people were afraid to get far from their homes.)
