    Genealogy Research Services

    Stokely Memorial Library, located in a modern stone building in downtown Newport was founded in 1925.  A genealogy section, created in the 1960's contains dozens of files crammed with data on Cocke County families, schools, churches, businesses and communities.  Additional material includes:

 

   Staff can provide the following research services:

        Search and Advice

        $5.00 per surname (Payable in advance).

                Includes searches of family files, census and cemetery records will be searched for data pertaining to your family.  You will be advised concerning available material and the approximate cost for further research.

 

Actual search of records and making copies:

    Time    $5.00 per hour

    Copies from Microfilm    $.50 each page

    Other Copies    $.15 each

    Postage and Handling is quoted

(Please send as much data as you can about your ancestor(s), especially birth, death and marriage records.  If exact dates are unknown, approximate dates can be very helpful.)
