Smith/ Edwards/Jones Family

My mother, Gladys L. Smith, was born in Newport. She had the following siblings: John Smith, Charles O. Smith. My mother also has a half-brother Bobby Jean Smith, half-sister Jacqueline Smith and another half-sister Phyllis Smith.

Her parents were Mitchell Smith and Cora Edwards.

Cora's parents were Wm. Thomas Edwards, born in Newport. His parents remain unknown because they died when he was just a small child. He was brought up by his aunt Sarah Gray and uncle Marshall Wilson (census records), which confirmed family story.

Her mother, Alice Jones born in Newport (Union Cemetery). Alice's parents were Andrew (A.J.) Jones b. 1830's? and Emily Corn b. 1830 - d ?

I know nothing about Andrew Jones family. I know quite a bit about the Corn family of N.C., Silas Corn being her father, he being the 12th child of 15 chilren of John Peter Corn, Revolutionary War Vet. And Hannah Parr. John Peter Corn's brother Jessie m. Nancy Hancock, dau. of John Hancock (the guy with the big letters on the Dec. of Ind. - he loved King George of Eng.)

Silas b. 1803 - d. 1884 m. Margaret E. Cagle B. 1804 - d. 1884 buried in Hendersonville N.C. (together), had a family of 12 to 14 children, Emily being the 9th child.
