Born 24 Dec 1831 in Cocke County, Tennessee, son of Frederick Cogdill (1802-1860) and Mary Davis (1809-1859).

Married in 1852 Elizabeth Mooneyham (1838-abt. 1880), daughter of William James Mooneyham (1800-c. 1880).

Civil War Service: 60th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. He enlisted as a Private but was eventually promoted to Sergeant.

Civilian Occupation: Farmer and circuit preacher for Primitive Baptist Churches in Newport and Gorman's Depot.

Died on 17 Apr 1903 in Grassy Fork, Cocke County, Tennessee

Buried in Grassy Fork, Tennessee.
