Bibee Family Biography

Thomas Bibee was born in Goochland Co., VA in 1734. He moved to Amhurst Co., VA before the Revolutionary War. In 1776 he volunteered for service in the War. He crossed the Fluvanna River in VA, Pee Dee River in NC and Santee River in SC, and joined the American Army under General Lee. In 1779 he volunteered again. Marched south to near Charleston, SC and served under General Lincoln and later was attached to General Mason. Next he was a substitute for one Johnson. Marched back south and served again under General Lincoln until just before the taking of Charleston by the British in 1780.

After the war he moved to NC on the Yadkin River. Later he moved to Burke Co., NC and again to Rutherford Co., NC. His next move was to Buncombe Co., NC, and in 1812 he moved to Cocke, Co., TN. He was issued a pension for his Military Service, rate $56.66 per annum on 26 Mar 1834. He died shortly after that date. Thomas was married to a Powatten Indian by the name of Wahane. It is believed that Thomas was the father of William W. Bibee.

William W. Bibee was my 2nd Great Grandfather. He was born about 1805 in NC. He was married to Peggy O Neil who was born in Culpepper Co. VA on 12 Feb 1806. They were married in Cocke Co. in 1821. Peggy's parents were Henry O'Neil and Betsy Gillett. William W. died in 1845, Peggy died in 1844. William and Peggy had 8 children: Tipton C. Bibee was my Great Grandfather. He married Patience Gillett in 1850. She was the daughter of John Gillett and Mrs. Elizabeth Gillett. Tipton died 31 Jan 1898 in Sheridan, Yamhill Co. OR. Patience died in Bybee, Cocke Co., TN in 1897. Tipton and Patience had 7 children: George Washington Bibee was my Grandfather. In 1886 he left Newport, Cocke Co., TN and traveled over 3000 miles to Sheridan, Yamhill, OR. He married Nettie Grant Chapman daughter of William Chapman and Esther Lorinda Bewley. George Washington died in 3 Nov 1927 in Seattle, King, WA. Nettie died 24 Oct 1962 in Albany, Linn, OR. George and Nettie had 6 children:
