Communicating through internet e-mail has become one of the best tools genealogists have found in researching their roots. Instead of waiting weeks for an answer to the message you send out, an answer could come back to you wit hin hours. As more and more people join the genealogical internet community a need was found for those with like interests to communicate with each other as a group, and thus mailing lists were formed.
Many folks felt that communicating with others researching the same area of interest would be a good thing. The first type of mailing lists to evolve were the STATE lists, and to subscribe to the list for Tennessee you would have to join TNRoots. To subsc ribe to TNRoots click on the link, type nothing in the subject line, in the BODY of your message enter SUB TNROOTS-L <firstname><lastname>, for example:
SUB TNROOTS-L Jane Doe
Next to evolve was County mailing lists. Below is a list of counties in Tennessee, some have mailing lists, others do not. If you see a county without a mailing list you might want to contact the county host and see if s/he has plans to in itiate one. If not, maybe you would like to work with the county host to get one started.
Some counties are combined together. So if you click on a link to subscribe to a county mailing list and do not find that county's name in the "TO:" section of the email, it's not a typo, that county is combined with another.
To subscribe to the lists below click on the word "Subscribe" and enter the word "subscribe" in the body of the message. If you are using automatically generated signature lines, please turn them off or your subscription will not go throug h.
