I viewed a copy of the Jonathan Hull Bible in 1966. No copyright or publication date is given in the Bible but it appears to have been published by Joseph McDowell or 25 Market Street, city not listed, or Kimber & Sharpless, # 8 South Fourth Street, city not listed.
All of the handwritten entries in the Bible are just scattered throughout the book and are not on one specific page or section. The Bible is quite old and tattered with fading writing. Some of the pages are completely loose. The last page or pages may be missing, hence not all of Jonathan and Nancy's children appear to be listed but may have been listed on a lost page. The entries which are readable are as follows. Since Jonathan Hull died in Overton Co., TN on January 31, 1883, any entries with dates after that date were obviously not written by Jonathan himself. Nancy died March 4, 1887. My comments are in parentheses.

On Saturday, August 10, 1996 I traveled to Shelbyville, TN in Bedford County with my husband, Mickie Crowley to attend the Sanders/Curtis Family Reunion held at Griffin Park. After the reunion, we visited in the home of Eva Curtis Sanders, widow of Yancie Edgar Sanders, and were shown a 125-year-old Bible which Eva believes to have belonged to Minerva Greenwood Sanders, second wife of Morgan Hulette Sanders, who was the father of Eva's late husband. According to Eva, she received the Bible from Flora Maybell Sanders, who was a sister to Eva's late husband. Flora died October 13, 1982, so Eva must have had the Bible for at least 14 years. Eva was most gracious and helpful in showing us the Bible and in spending several hours helping decipher the handwritten entries.
According to the New Testament title page, the Bible was published in New York by the American Bible Society in 1871. There was no title page before the Old Testament. Many pages of the Bible were separated from the spine and were loose. Much of the writing was faded and the pages quite frayed and yellow and perhaps water or dampness marked or damaged. The edges of many of the pages were decayed away and missing, so some of the handwritten entries are incomplete. In general the Bible was in very delicate condition and obviously very old. Some of the writing had been done in pencil, some in brown ink, and some in blue ink, but the handwriting all appeared to be quite old and perhaps all done by the same person or by only a few people. Written entries appeared on the inside of the front and back covers of the Bible. Most of the entries were on unprinted pages in the center section between the Old and the New Testaments. A few entries were simply written along the margin of a page within the Bible.
The following is a transcription, to the best of mine and Eva's ability, of the information shown in the handwritten entries in the Bible. The goal of this effort is to preserve this information in a more accessible form that is readily available for use and study by family members and other interested parties. Many of the words were misspelled, such as 'borned' and months of the year. I have corrected only the months spelling. In addition, the penmanship was rather large and scrawling, and the physically deteriorated nature of the ink rendered many of the entries nearly illegible, so what follows represents Eva's and my best effort to decipher the entries. My notes regarding pagination and my comments regarding unreadable, unclear or uncertain words are in parentheses to clearly separate such notes from the actual entry information. Clarification by anyone who has other sources of any of this information is welcome. Some information, such as a birth or death date, appears more than once in the entries.
William Silvester Sanders was borned March 31, 1888 (Was this perhaps a son of Morgan Hulet Sanders who died as an infant?)

Florence is believed to be a daughter of Morgan Hulet and LizzieBith E. Poe Sanders.)
William Silvester Sanders was borned March the 31, 1888
Filey Celina Scinthary (third name unclear) Sanders was (bottom of page frayed and missing so this entry is incomplete. However, at the top of the next page, which is the title page for the New Testament, is written in a brighter blue ink, just the date:) May the 12th, 1889 (followed by) Knob Creek Sunday ( I assume that this date applies to 'Knob Creek Sunday' and not to 'Filey...' since May 12, 1889 was indeed a Sunday. There are several unnamed cemeteries in the Knob Creek area in northeast Jackson Co., TN. Filey is believed to be a daughter of Morgan Hulet and LizzieBith E. Poe Sanders.)
