I am searching for the family of Elihu D. HURST (born in 1838 inTn.). It is believed his family was from Sevier or Claiborne County. At one time he lived in Kentucky, and probably moved to The HurstNation area of Hardin County in the mid 1850,s, along with severalbrothers (names unknown). He and his brothers served in The SixthTennessee Federal Cavalry Regiment. I find Elihu on the muster forthat unit, along with many other young HURST'S, any of whom couldhave been his brothers. Would someone please check records for me to identify any
Presbyterian Churches that were in Claiborne County during the
1820-1850 time frame, that are still active.  I am looking for
records for the DOOLEY family and believe they were Presbyterians.  I
am looking for Thomas DOOLEY specifically, but any of them would be a
start. Thomas is listed on the 1830 and 1840 census and paid a
school tax in 1832 and 1838, I believe.  I have hit a wall here, and

Mills - Wells - Hopson  10/17/99 5:19:55 PM Eastern Daylight Time
I cannot find parents or siblings for my Martha "Patsy" Wells, who married James Hopson on Oct 24, 1844 in Claiborne County. P G Fulkerson in his "Early Settlers" says simply that James Hopson married Patsy Wells. He usually
mentions the bride's parents or at least a brother, or where she came from etc. Transcriptions of the marriage books have called her Wills and Mills. I have looked at the original in Claiborne County - the first letter could be either a W or an M, and there is a spot over the "e" which might mean that it was meant to be an "i". Or it could be a leaky pen.
I have tracked all the Wells families of Claiborne & have determined that she cannot belong to any of them - they already had a Martha, they had no female of her age in the house in 1840, etc etc. There are a couple of Willis families early on,. but she doesn't seem to fit those either.
My great grandfather's death certificate, filled out by my grandfather in 1946, says that the mother was Martha Wells. Great grandpaw was the youngest of a huge family and my grandfather never knew the parents. Was the Fulkerson stuff around in the early 1940's? Could he have read that & believed it?
There is a Mills family in the Claiborne census for 1830 and a different one in 1840 - each has a female in Patsy's age group. There are several Mills marriages in the 1830's & 40's: William Mills to Rhoda Lawson, James Mills to Sarah Lawson, Henry Mills to Mahaley Hill. Fulkerson doesn't have a separate article on the Mills family, but he does say that a son of Thomas Henderson, Jerry, married Betsy Mills and that Polly Cloud married Joseph Mills. Again, he gives no parents for these Mills people.
Patsy's birth & death dates are c. 1824 to 1894. If anyone is researching Mills families maybe you can help me to prove whether she could belong to your family.

I have tracked my Boles ancestors back to Claiborne Co, Tenn.  They arrived
there, most  likely from Va., by 1846.  Thomas Boles, wife Elizabeth, and
children are found on 1850 census.  Their oldest daughter, Sarah, married
John Sproles and my ancestress, Miriam, married Ryburn Thomas.  Both these
men lived in Claiborne Co.

Kisia Cowan, 1 female 20-30, 2 females 5-10, 2 males under 5
Could this be Kesiah Carmack b. 1812, daughter of Levi Carmack and
Elizabeth Peters?   She was listed in the 1840 census between Isaac Carmack
(s/o Levi Carmack), and William Hail (Hale) who was the father of Isaac
Carmack's wife Comfort Hale.
Later records indicate that Kesiah Carmack married Daniel Ayers.  Some of
their descendants lived in Lee Co, VA.  Could this be a first marriage for
Kesiah?   In the 1850 Claiborne Co. census, a 13-year-old William Cowan was
living in the household of William Carmack (another of the sons of Levi
Carmack).    Was he one of the males under age 5 from Kisia Cowan's family
in 1840?
I would appreciate any help in establishing the connection between the
Carmack and Cowan families whether in Claiborne Co, TN or Lee Co, VA.

My GGrandfather was James Robert Ford born 3 Apr 1855 in Claiborne Co, TN.
He married Martha Jane Carmon.  His children were:John Newton,William
Preston, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Emily Lucinda, James Walter, Daniel Campbell &
Nola R. Daniel Campbell was my Grandfather.  Nola married a Day.  I don't
have my notes with me so can't tell you exact.  I'm a cousin of Betty Ruth
Day who is married to Paul Johnson who wrote the book on cemetaries of
Clairborne Co.

1946, believed they are buried at Lynnhurst Cemetery, Knoxville.
They lived in Clairfield TN and family lore says they ran a skating
rink and that he sold singer sewing machines.

I am trying to find information on my great grandmother, she was full
blood Cherokee and probably born around the early 1900's.
Her name was Emma Jane BEELER and she married Jefferson Campbell
Bean. They had several children one of which was my grandmother Lula
Bean McDonald. I know that my grandmother (Lula) was born in 1920.
We believe that Emma Jane BEELER died from cancer around late 1953.

on 02Apr1858, and his wife Rachel Madden Leger, b. c1789 in
VA, died c1884.  Their children were born in Claiborne County, and
they are: John, b. 1809, Mahala, b. 1810, Peter, b. 1817, William
Franklin, b. 1821, Arch, b. 11Feb1820, Mary, b. 1823, Nelson, b.
1829, Rachal, b. 1834. Peter and Rebecca Leger are buried in the
Leger Family Cemetery on Big Creek Rd. in Hancock County.
If you have information on Peter, Rebecca or their children please

Hi Guys : My name is Shirley Brewer and I have been looking for any
information on the parents of George W Brewer b 1850 and Nancy Brewer b.
1853 and another brother name unknown. They all were born in TN no proof
yet. George W. Brewer died in 1934 in Marion Co. mother was unknown have
distant relatives that said her name was Ann or Nancy Ann Alexander. I
found her living with the Nancy Brewer above who she married (Tully
Emmett, Ferguson) in 1900. Could some one check the census or any other
records that would tell me if Ann Alexander was on the 1910 census, of
the Ferguson on the census too....They were in Marion Co Odin Twp in
1900....need to find any of these

I am searching for ancestor Elizabeth Dorcas SHARP - given names could be
reversed.  The fiirst info I have on her is a census from Fulton Co., Ill
wherein she states her birthplace as Tenn, born abt 1803.  On searching state
queries I rec'd msg that some Sharps were in Claiborne County and sometime
between 1830 and 1840 some of them moved to Illinois.  Any information about
the SHARP families could be of help.

I am looking for information on Deewitt Clinton Welch who married Anna
Beeler, b. 1864 in Grainger or Claiborne Co. TN.
As Anna´s parents moved to McDonald Co. MO. in 1884, I am not sure if she
married Deewit Clinton Welch in TN or in MO.
I am also not sure of the marriage date, but believe Anna married
relatively young, probably in TN.
Anna Beeler was the daughter of Robert Beeler and Penelope Shelton, both of
Grainger and Claiborne Co. TN. who moved to MO in 1884.

I am looking for conformation of a wedding between Thomas Dooley and
a Margaret (Unknown).  Their first living child is born in 1844, so I
believe the wedding would be around 1842-1844. Thomas would have
been about 50-52 years old, Margaret would be about 25-27 years old.
This would be a second or third marriage for Thomas.  I believe the
wedding was in Claiborne County because Thomas is listed in the 1830
and 1840 Census for Claiborne County, then in 1850 he is listed in
the Lawrence Co., KY census with this wife.
Does anyone know anything about this marriage? I am interested in
Thomas, especially.  Does anyone know about Thomas's other marriages.
