I would like to hear from anyone who is knowledgeable about any of the above that can help sort out what are bound to be errors in this. SURBER 98-11-30 20:35:13 EST I need to insert my Claiborne County names here. I am researching the SURBER family there (and in other places).
One of my Surber families in Claiborne County is Joseph Surber and his first wife, Mary Rouse. They had children: Ruth who married Joseph Shelton, Jane who married Ousbin Barbary, Palser who married Louisa Robinson or McClure (and remained in Virginia), Sarah who married Jess Greer, Margaret who married John Eastridge, Tempa Ann who married James D. Crawford, Waistill/Weighty who apparently never married but had several children, Rachel who married Andrew J. Green, John who married Louisa J. Unknown, Andrew who married first Susan Jane Sproles and second Rachel Maples, and Mary E. who married Moses B. Mullins. Joseph's second wife was Milly Rose Wolfenbarger. Found in the 1850 census for Smyth County, Virginia, they had moved to Claiborne County by 1860. There are still Surbers in Claiborne County today that descend from this family.
My other Claiborne County Surber family was Alfred who married first Nancy Unknown and had children Priscilla who married Alexander Harkins, Nancy--unknown if she married, Lydia who married Thomas Patton Long, Caleb who died in the Civil War, Sarah Jennie who married Ewin Chadwell, Alfred and Henry--fates unknown, David J. who married Emily Woolf, Mary A.--fate unknown. Alfred married second Mary Lawson and they had children: William who married Adline (Linda) Lawson, and Catherine--fate unknown. Found in the 1850 census in the 1850 census for Washington County, Virginia, the family had moved to Claiborne County, Tennessee by 1860. They subsequently settled in Hancock Co., TN.
I would be interested in any information that anyone might have about these two families or other Surbers. I am especially interested in hearing from any Claiborne County Surber descendants.

Thanks, Diana Sharp Clark BYRD/BOWMAN 98-11-29 16:24:55 EST I'm working on my BYRD/BOWMAN line. My great grandfather was Wiliam Cam Byrd (1865-1910) who married Sarah Sallie Bowman, daughter of Nathan Bowman and Mary Woodward Willims.
I found Cam on the 1880 Hancock Co., census at the age of 15 living in the home of Speer and Tipton. I know that he lived in and around Claiborne Co, TN, and finally moved to Bell Co., KY around 1910. My goal now is to find information on Cam's parents -- Alex Floyd Byrd and Betty Buttry Trent. Haynes Byrd, Cam's brother lived in Tazewell for quite some time. He was married to Emaline Brown, daughter of Calvin Brown.
Would welcome any help at all on finding Alex Floyd Byrd and Betty Buttry Trent.

He probably was born in Clairborne Co. and moved to Lee Co, VA. I think the family may have moved back and forth, from Clairborne Co. to Lee Co. I am searching for any information on our lost Lawson ancestors. They supposedly came from around Hawkins Co., TN but cannot find any record there so will try surrounding areas.
Our earliest Lawson ancestor is Carter Lawson b. abt 1775 and had a wife named Melvina. Carter and Melvina had a son named David b. abt 1795 who m. Sarah Lawrence. (We are not sure about her surname). David and Sarah had the following ch: 1) William B. b. abt 1815; 2) Joseph b. 1820 m. Lucy Pauley; 3) John b. abt 1834 m. Lucretia Cooper; 4) James Lawson b. 1835 m. Lanza Thompson and Frances Spurlock.

CARROLL-HERRELL 98-11-28 11:00:47 EST I am trying to locate any information or other connection on the following: CARROLL, James m/Elvira Mariah HERRELL 27 Oct 1845 Claiborne Co, TN In the 1850 census of Claiborne Co, James was age 72, "Mariah" was age 36 living with them was Rosannah CARROLL age 23, Mary J CARROLL age 14; Rosey C CARROLL? age 73, Nancy A CARROLL age 11.
I found deeds in Claiborne Co showing that James was the only heir of John CARROLL who had received a land grant, which James inherited. Also in one deed of James and Elvira Mariah there is mentioned an Alexander HERRELL.
James was found in the 1860 census of Osage Co, MO living next door to my great grandfather, Hickman Morgan CARROLL. I have never been able to find a connection.

Martha ROSE is in the 1860 Claiborne Co. Census as being 14 years old and living in the household of John Jr and Rachel WEST. Also listed is Jane ROSE 5 years old and Jasiah ROSE 2 years. What is the relationship? She is identified in Old Time Tazewell and in 1900 Lee County VA census is living in Jonesville VA.

My brick wall is Reuben COOPER, my ggggg-grandfather. My family info has him married to a Mary DAGLEY in TN. Their daughter Emily/Emma married Millard F.CLOUSE in TN 9-02-1907. It was Millard's 2nd marriage. The children of this marriage were: Maggie Leona, b1909; Bessie Stella, B1911(my Grandmother); Julia Margaret, B1913; Millard Fillmore,Jr, B1915; there may have been a couple more but I don't know for sure. Millard Sr had been married to a Mary Magdeline/Margaret QUILLAN who died between 1903 and 1907. I would like to find out more about the COOPER/DAGLEY parents/siblings. I have been getting info on the CLOUSE line, and can go back to 1738; with the line (so far) coming from Washington Cty VA to Washington Cty TN, Claiborne Cty TN, Campbell Cty TN, ....and then to Meigs Cty OH. on 16 Dec 1858. His parents are Joseph WHITAKER & Margaret HAMILTON.
I know nothing about Margaret HAMILTON. Also not much about the
FULLINGTON. Anyone having any information on these lines please let
me know.

I am looking for the ancestors of Susan Paul (born ABT 1818) who
married William M. Rogers on February 26, 1840 in Claiborne County,
Tennessee. Could she have been the daughter or possibly the sister of
Joseph Paul (born 1790/1800) of Campbell County, Tennessee? Could she
be related to the Edward P. Paul (born 1760/1770) who lived in
Claiborne County, Tennessee in 1840?

County after moving from VA. Am looking for any information on him
and his forefathers.

I am looking for information on the aforementioned surnames. I only
have a few pieces of information gathered together so far. Nancy CADLE GOINS was born in Claiborne Co in 1838 or 1839. She married a man named Franklin M. GOINS, who is also from Claiborne Co. He was born in about 1830. At some point they moved (either before or after marriage) to KY, living in a variety of counties throughout the state. In a 1870 census for Bell Co,Ky - there is what I believe to be Nancy's mother listed.
Her name is listed as Susana - 64 years old from Virgina with her father having been foreign born. I do not know of any siblings for either Nancy or Franklin, with the exception of a possible Mary CADLE GIBSON who also resided in Bell Co., Ky. Other than Susana - I have no additional information on either set of parents, or beyond.
I have heard also Cumberland Gap associated with the family, not sure how that fits in with Claiborne.

Is anyone out there a descendant of Reuben Floyd STONE through his
daughter Lydia STONE, the wife of John WEBB; Paulina STONE, the wife
of John LYNCH, Catherine STONE, first the wife of John Lynch and
later the wife of Barnie CRUTCHFIELD.
Does anyone have a photograph of Reuben Floyd STONE, (1804-1879), his
wife Fetna (HURST) STONE, (1812-1892), their daughters, Lydia
(STONE)WEBB, Olivia (STONE) PARKS, Paulina (STONE) LYNCH, or any
other of the STONE children?
Does anyone know the exact location, in terms of a present-day road
or creek name, of Elk Bend or Elk's Bend, on the Powell's River?

There was a DAVIS Family originally from Wales, parents are unknown, but
the children are as follows:
Elizabeth DAVIS
Rachel DAVIS
Mary DAVIS
Martha DAVIS
Benjamin DAVIS
girl DAVIS, name unknown
That's just about it for what we know about the PAYNE's. Amanda later
married John Preston THOMAS on June 11, 1848 in Wayne County, KY. They
lived at Monticello, KY where they had four children. On Jan. 12, 1855 John
THOMAS took his wife and four children to Texas settling in Burnet County
where he was a teacher and later practiced law and served as a District
Judge. John THOMAS died in 1865. Amanda was left to raise her eight
children on her on and did quite well at it. Amanda died Nov. 11, 1921.
Amanda's daughter, Ada Rachel THOMAS married Emmett Marion WATSON and they
were my great-grandparents.
If you can add ANY information to what I already have, I would really
appreciate it. Thanks.
