WILLIAM HENRY LOWRY
Submitted by Betsy Girouard

William Henry Lowry was born in the lower end of Blount County, Tennessee, near Baker's Creek, December 5, 1846.
He died in Fort Sanders Hospital, Knoxville, October 3, 1924.
He was left an orphan at a very early age and remembered little of his parents.
He was taken at the age of seven by the McCoy family, a well-known family of Blount County in early days, and was reared by them, being loved and treated with all tenderness as a son.
At the breaking out of the great Civil War he was pressed into the Confederate Army, serving in a compact made up in Blount County and commanded by Captain Toole.
His service ended with the surrender of Vicksburg.
Later he enlisted in the Union Army where his sympathies had always been, and served in the 4th Tennessee Mounted Infantry until the close of the war.
He was married January 17 1865 to Isabel
Edmonds who preceded him to the Realms of the Blest by thirty four years.
To this union nine children were born;
George Henry
Robert Nelson
Lenora Catherine
Margaret Elizabeth
James Turner
Barbara Cornelia
Leona Elizabeth
Millard Vennor
Annie Grace
Thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Lowry was always intensely religious.
Early in life he united with the United Presbyterian Church being a member of the Big Springs congregation.
Later he transferred his membership to New Providence Church, Marysville whose services and fellowship were to him always the highest source of satisfaction and comfort.
Few people are more familiar with the Bible
than was Mr. Lowry,
He was also a great lover and reader of religious books.
Though he never enjoyed the advantages of an education, he was a great reader
and was remarkably well informed, keeping abreast of the times on all
questions and possessing an unusually fine mind.
He was a quiet man, and loved and trusted his God, and fell asleep in the faith and hope of a blessed immortality.
The funeral was held from the home of his son
Millard Lowry.
Sunday afternoon at 2:o'clock, interment was made in Magnolia Cemetery
