He was captured by Confederate forces. He became ill with fever and died on
May 26, 1865 at the Sedgewick Military Hopital in Greenville, Louisiana. He is
buried at Chalmette National Cemetery in Chalmette, Louisiana

Alfred Reece was born 1830 in Greene Co TN. His parents were John Reece Sr.
and Mary Ottinger Reece.He was on of 11 children who lived on the Cocke/Greene
County line.
Alfred had 3 brothers who also died in the Civil War. The most famous of his
brothers was Peter Reece, who was hanged by the Conferate forces in
Parrottsville, TN. The 2 other brothers were Caleb and Johnathan
Alfred married Elizabeth Phhipps. They had 2 daughters Mary Caroline Reece
(7/27/1860-5/31/1949) who married George Washington Woody and Sydney Emaline
Reece (7/30/1862-7/10/1937) who married Nicholas Brown Fox. Elizabeth and her
2 daughters are buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Del Rio Tn. (Spicewood
Flats area)
