Abstract of Information available in the Service Records:
Zachariah BIGGS first enlisted as a Confederate Private on 5 November 1861 with the 43rd TN Infantry Regiment, Co. E. He is listed as deserted on 20 July 1862 with the Confederacy. His enlistment on 1 April 1862 is with the Union Army. Zachariah mentions in his Pension File that he got typhoid fever on the Chatanooga Campaign. He has impaired hearing of the left ear and disease of his respiratory organs. Pension Record states that he is 5\'11\" tall, complexion is blond, light hair and blue eyes. Muster out date: 11 April 1865 at Nashville, Davidson Co., TN.

Born 4 October 1835 near Salem, Stokes Co., NC. Middle son of Zachariah BIGGS and Priscilla HARDEN. Brother of William and Henry BIGGS. Married Catharine (Katie) BROWN (Abt. 1832-Aft. 21 October 1874) on 28 March 1853 in Hancock Co., TN. The children of this marriage were William BIGGS (February 1854-25 July 1924), Sarah (Sallie) E. BIGGS HARRIS (19 July 1855-Aft. May 1892), Isadora BIGGS (b. 30 May 1857) & Henry BIGGS (Abt. 12 August 1860-March 1918). Zachariah\'s 2nd marriage was to Sarah BAILEY on 17 November 1872 in Shelby Co., IL. Known children are Estella BIGGS (Abt. 1874), Albertie BIGGS (Abt. 1879), Rosie Bell BIGGS (8 March 1882-8 December 1888) and Maudie BIGGS (19 February 1887-28 December 1888). Zachariah BIGGS died 3 May 1906. His last known residence was Manila, Mississippi Co., Arkansas.
