Robert P. Estes, an old and prominent citizen of this county, died Tuesday evening at his home one mile from Gallatin on the Red River Pike. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2:30 o'clock Thursday, this afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. B. Blue of the Gallatin Methodist Church and Dr. H. M. Jarvis. Burial will follow at the Gallatin Cemetery in charge of the Masonic Order. Members of the Donelson Bivouac will serve as honorary pall bearers. Mr. Estes was born in Davidson County on February 10th, 1838. He had lived in Sumner County since early manhood, residing at the place of his death for the past fifty-four years. He was a man of exemplary character and was held in the highest esteem by his fellow citizens. When a young man he joined the Methodist Church and was always a faithful Christian. He is probably the last living member of the old Tulip Street Church of Nashville. Mr. Estes was a prominent Mason and a Civil War veteran, having served four years with distinction in the Confederate Army. He is survived by three children, S. B. Estes of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Joe Lanier and Mrs. C. G. Hassell of the Red River Road. Transcribed by Linda Barnes
