Although Tennessee became the 13th Confederate state in the CSA, many of her residents supported the Union, particularly in East Tennessee. Tennessee supplied over 50,000 men to Union forces in order to preserve the Union. Below is a description and list of records pertaining to Tennessee Union Veterans that are currently available at the Tennessee and the Civil War Site.

REPORT OF THE ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE - TENNESSEE 1866
  • In 1866, the USA government requested from each state a list of veterans who served in the Union Army from that state. This database contains a transcription of that book.
TENNESSEE FEDERAL (CMSR) DATABASE
  • This database contains transcriptions of Tennessee Federal Compiled Military Service Records (CMSR). The transcribed records were provided by descendants, who have ordered copies of the records from the National Archives. If you have copies of your ancestors CMSR, please consider contributing to the database.
PENSION DATABASE
  • This database contains transcriptions of Union Pension Applications. The transcribed records were provided by descendants, who have ordered copies of the records from either the National Archives or various state archives. If you have copies of your ancestor's pension application, please consider contributing to the database.
DEATH ROLL
  • List of Tennessee Union Soldiers interred at Andersonville,
    Belle Isle, Danville, Point of Rocks, and Camp Lawton, Milin, GA.
TNGENWEB'S CIVIL WAR VIRTUAL MILITARY CEMETERY
  • The goal of this project is to identify all graves of veterans who served in the military units from Tennessee during the Civil War and to display photos of those graves. Currently, there are over 6000 photos of tombstones from

  • This database contains transcriptions of obituaries of Civil War Veterans that were published in Tennessee newspapers or Tennessee Civil Veterans published in any newspaper.   • This database displays photos of Tennessee Civil War Veterans. Photos are contributed by researchers and descendants.

  • A fully searchable database that contains the names of some of the Tennessee Union Veterans and lists their pension application numbers. Information is submitted by descendants.
