Abstract of Information available in the Service Records:
Enlisted in Captain Henderson Hix's Company of Tennessee Volunteers as First
Sergeant. He was enlisted into the Regiment by Colonel W. M. Bradford who was
Colonel of the 31st Tennessee Infantry Regiment and which was later
reorganized as the 39th Tennesse Mounted Infantry. Gale was captured at
Vicksburg when his unit was surrendered by CSA General Pemberton and gave his
Parole on 9 July 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The Parole was signed and
attested to by Captain Pullers of the 20th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers on 11
July 1863.
