Abstract of Information available in the Service Records:
Jesse James enlisted for 3 years. He was present on the Jan. to Feb. role for
1863. He was present for the role taken for March and April of 1963. The role
taken from May 1 1963 to April 30, 1864 states that he died August 15th, 1863.
We know he was a prisoner of war and was captured in Vicksburg on July 4th,
1863. He signed his parole paper on July 8th, 1963. A little over a month
later he was dead.
Personal Information about the Veteran (Not contained in the CMSR):
Jesse James Norris was born in the year 1834. He lived in Washington County
TN. He married Susan Miller and they were blessed with a daughter in 1857, her
name was Sarah E. In 1858 a son was born,this son would be named after his
father and was Jesse James # 2. We assume she died giving birth because she no
longer showed up on the census. He married a Sarah Chandler when Jesse was
only a few months old. Jesse James left to join the civil war and never
returned.
