Born abt.1840. Son of Nathan and Rhoda Fitzgerald Copass. Served with 3
brothers, John, Montgomery,and Thomas.Captured May 17,1863 at Battle of " Big
Black River Bridge " in Miss. Sent to " Johnson's Island," Ohio. Arrived there
June 5,1863. Died August 28, 1863. " Buried on the Island." Richard was a
younger brother of my maternal g,g,grandmother,Cynthia Copass Cox.
