SUPPLEMENTAL TESTIMONY AND PROCEEDINGS in the matter of the application for the enrollment of CARY A. HATFIELD as a citizen by intermarriage of the Cherokee Nation.
CARY A. HATFIELD, being first duly sworn, and being examined, testified as follows:
BY COMMISSION: What is your name? A. Cary A. Hatfield.
Q. How old are you? A. Thirty-eight the 12th of next month.
Q. What is your post office address? A. It is now Whitmire Oil Springs. When I enrolled it was Kansas.
Q. You are a white man? A. Yes sir.
Q. Have you heretofore made application to this Commission for enrollment as a citizen by intermarriage of the Cherokee Nation? A. Yes sir, I was enrolled at Westville.
Q. What is the name of your wife? A. Nannie Hatfield.
Q. Is she living? A. Yes sir.
Q. Is she a Cherokee by blood? A. Yes sir.
Q. Do you claim your right to enrollment by reason of your marriage to her? A. Yes sir.
Q. When were you and she married? A. In 1890, the 18th day of January.
Q. Have you and she lived together continuously since the date of your marriage? A. Yes sir.
Q. Were you married to her in 1890 under Cherokee law? A. Yes sir.
Q. Were you and see living together on the 1st day of September, 1902? A. Yes sir.
Q. Have you resided in the Cherokee Nation continuously since you and she were married? A. Yes sir.
Q. Has she resided in the Cherokee Nation continuously since you and she were married? A. Yes sir.
Q. Were you ever married before you married her? A. No sir.
Q. Was she ever married before she married you? A. No sir.
Q. You are her first husband and she is your first wife? A. Yes sir.
Q. You have made application for the enrollment of how many children? Q. [sic] Two, a boy and a girl.
Q. Are both of those children living? A. Yes sir.
This testimony will be filed with and made a part of the record in the matter of the application for the enrollment of Cary A. Hatfield as a citizen by intermarriage of the Cherokee Nation, Cherokee straight card field No. 271.
Wm. Hutchinson, being first duly sworn, states that as stenographer to the Commission to the Five Civilzed Tribes he correctly recorded the testimony and proceedings in this case, and that the foregoing is a true and complete transcript of the stenographic notes thereof.
