McNEELY, William (#176). When Received: May 11, 1835; Crime: Petit Larceny, From What County: Campbell; Age: 30; Occupation: Labourer; Sentence: 1 year; Where Born: Virginia; When Discharged: July 4, 1835; By What Authority: Died of Cholera. William McNEELEY was rec'd in the Penitentiary on the Seventh day of May, one thousand eight hundred and thirty five. He is five feet ten inches high, thirty years of Age & weighs one hundred and fifty seven pounds. Black eyes, black hair & beard & dark complexion. Two small scars on the forehead. One between the eyebrow, and one in the edge of the hair on the left side. And a scar on the forefinger of the left hand near the third joint. Born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia & brought up in Campbell County, Tennessee. His father (William McNEELEY) and family reside in Campbell Cty, Tenn. on Powells river, in Trammell's Bent, 5 Miles from Glade Spring Meeting House. Married Sarah HETHERLY, daughter of John HETHERLY, who also lived in Trammell's Bent in Campbell Cty. His wife & Children (3) are residing on the Same Plantation with his father. He was found guilty of Petit Larceny at the Circuit Court of Campbell County, and sentenced to one year's confinement in the Jail & Penitentiary House of the State of Tennessee. William McNEELEY died of Cholera on the 4th day of July 1835. SOURCE: Convict Record Book. 1831-1842. Record Group 25, Volume 45.
