The J.M. Smith family Bible is in poor condition and the first 14 numbered pages are missing. Therefore there is no indication of the publisher or the date of printing. The Old Testament section is "King James" or The Authorised Version." The New Testament is printed in two parallel versions. Its title page is as follows: The Parallel Edition Of The New Testament Of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Translated Out of The Greek: Being The Version Set Forth A.D. 1611 Arranged in Parallel Columns with the Revised Version of A.D. 1881 Together with the renderings and readings preferred by the American Revisers Text Conformable to that of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge
The family records section begins with a
full page Marriage Certificate:
"This is to certify that James M. Smith and Mary J. Lawson were united
by me in Holy Matrimony at Old Fort, Braadley County, Tenn on the fifth
day of February in the year of our Lord 1852. (signed) Mr. Finnell,
D.D.

(My Grandfather, Robert Lee Smith, Sr., took up the record after the
listing of his name. He showed three wedding dates by his name and on
the next three lines listed the names of his brides and the appropriate
dates for them. At the bottom of the page he recorded his four children
and their birth dates. I also have his bible and I have expanded the
list in this
present record with full names (in parentheses) where noted in his own
bible.
