HOOD, Joe M. (1888)

Unexpected Death

The news reached the city Sunday morning that Joe M. HOOD had died suddenly at his home in Maryville. The announcement was a surprise to everyone, as Mr. HOOD had been in the city Saturday as usual on business.

A post-mortem examination revealed an internal trouble as the cause of death. Deceased had been feeling badly for several days, but had not discontinued his work, that of running as an engineer on the Knoxville and Augusta road from Maryville to this place.

Joe HOOD, as he was familiarly called, was a brother of Gen. R.N. HOOD, and Wm. HOOD of this place. He was for years conductor and superintendent on the K. & A. road and was a popular and efficient railroad man. For the past few weeks he has been running an engine for a change.

Mr. HOOD was of middle age and leaves a wife and son. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place at Maryville yesterday morning.
