HERRIN, RUSHING, WARD posted by Mary Gibson , at Email: MaryEGibson@cs.com , on Wednesday, December 8, 1999

I am looking for any information on Susan RUSHING living in Robert WARD household in 1850. In 1860 Susan is gone but her children are in the HH listed as Wards. She is back by 1870 and listed as RUSHING. The children were William 1841, Dianah 1843, Elenior ??1845, Elizabeth 1847, Ransom 1856, and Seaborn Abel RUSHING born in Benton County 1853 died in Imboden Ark. 1923 married Sarah Frances HERRIN 1874 in Benton County. They moved to Ark in 1885 by way of IL. This has been a mystery to me for a long time. Who was Susan RUSHING? Robert Ward was my great great grandfather born in SC 1806. He is related to the Anson County NC Wards and I am sure there is a Rushing connection.

CRAIG, CRAIGUE, WATSON posted by Penny Wilson , at Email: celeste@ala.nu , on Wednesday, December 15, 1999

I am the great granddaughter of thomas a watson from camden, tennessee in benton county. He died in a fire at his home during the Tobacco wars in the 1870's. He married Elizabeth Ann Craigue (Craig) on June 27, 1863 and it is recorded at the Benton County courthouse in the marriage records. According to other records I have located, his father was David Watson Jr. who had land grants in Range 6, Sections 4 & 5, Cedar Grove Community with older generations of Watson's buried in Cedar Grove Methodist church cemetary located off Big Sandy River. David Watson Jr. was married twice, his 1st wife was a Cottingham (?) whose children were James, David, Issac, Alfred, Mary Jane, and Elizabeth. His 2nd wife was Mary Presson and their children were Thomas A., Nancy Rudediah, Martha Dora, Benjamin S.P., and Charles. David Jr.'s father was David Watson Sr., born in South Carolina around 1767, he is listed in the Stewart County TN taxlist (1807), 1830 Census in Humphreys Co., TN. Also he ias listed in the Benton Co., TN Census in 1840 & 1850 after which he disapeared. I am looking for any information on Elizabeth Craigue who was my Great grandmother. I was hoping that you might be of some assistance or might know where I could look. I am looking forward to any help you might be able to give me.

CRAIG, CRAIGUE, WATCON posted by Penny Wilson , at Email: celeste@ala.nu , on Wednesday, December 15, 1999

Thomas A Watson, who is David Watson Jr.'s son, married Elizabeth Ann Craigue in Benton Co., Camden TN on June 27, 1863 and they had children who are: Martha, who married a Presley and had a daughter named Zora; Minnie, who married Will McGill; Mary/Molly who was highstrung; Thomas Jefferson (who was my Grandfather) ; George, David, Ferdinand (Ferd) who died of stomach trouble. Thomas Jefferson was born in 1878 in Benton Co, TN., and was a wanderer before he settled down and married Nancy Gale Hollon from Prattville, AL in Autauga Co..He wandered around in Mississippi and in fact, he and Nancy Gale's 1st child was born dead in MS. Their children are Zora, Ralph, Elisabeth Ann, Vera, Thomas Jefferson (T.J.), Eugene, and Mabel Gertrude (my mother). They settled in a small south Alabama town called Eclectic in Elmore County. Thomas Jefferson Watson died April 16, 1942 and Nancy Gale died in 1954 and they are both buried at Bullock Cemetary in Eclectic, AL in Elmore Co. I hope that this information is useful to you and if you have any additional information that you could share with me I would appreciate it. I have more on this family and I am always looking for more, especially the Craigue side and the Hollon side from south Alabama. I would like to find out who Elizabeth Ann Craigue's parents were and if they settled in Benton County. Elizabeth Ann Craigue took care of sick folks in the community. I would also like to find out more information on the Tobacco Wars in Benton Co. Please e-mail me if you have more information and I will do the same for you. Thanks...
