BOGGS, DORTCH, ESTEP, HORTON, PRESLEY, TARPLEY posted by David Colburn , at Email: JDColburn1@aol.com , on Monday, June 1, 1998

I am interested in the Francis P. TARPLEY of Company I, 7th Tenn. Cavalry and all other TARPLEY lines with ties to Tennessee. I have hit a deadend on my TARPLEY line with Richard Elvis TARPLEY born abt. 01 Mar 1850. He 1st marr. Lillie HORTON; he 2nd marr. Ettie BOGGS born abt. 1860 probably near the Big Sandy, Benton County, TN area. These two later migrated to Green and Clay Counties, Arkansas. The UNKNOWN mother of Ettie BOGGS 1st marr. a BOGGS ca. 1860 probably in Benton County, TN. BOGGS went off to fight in the Civil War, returned for one night and left, never to be seen again. Ettie BOGGS' mother later marr. Andrew ESTEP and they had three children: Margaret, Annie and John ESTEP. This family has ties to Kentucky. Other names somehow connected to these families are DORTCH and PRESLEY. Any info on any families with these surnames will be appreciated. I'll gladly share all info I have.

CAPPS, FORD, HARDIN, LASHLEE, WISEMAN posted by Jean Gilley , at Email: nj.gilley@att.net , on Thursday, June 4, 1998

Elizabeth "Betsy" Capps married Peyton S. Lashlee on 6 March 1846 in Benton County, TN. Need proof of Elizabeths parents? Early research pointed toward Hillory Capps, but his daughter Elizabeth apparently married William Lee Hardin in 1851. A letter written to J.K.T. Smith in 1969 by D. B. Farrar says she was the daughter of Reuben Capps, Sr. and she had siblings Mary Ann who married James Martin Wiseman, Emily Jane who married M. Crosswell Ford and Reuben Jr. who became a Mormon elder. (I consider the letter only a clue, surely there is a record somewhere!)

Family tradition says that he was either a full blood or half Indian who came to Benton County from North Carolina. He had a large family and several slaves. Who were his parents? Siblings? What about Kizzah? There was a Hezakiah Greer in Benton County. Might she be his daughter (Kizzah could be a female name for Hezakiah). Thanks for the help.

CUMMIN, LARGENT, LEARGENT posted by Lynn Colley , at Email: lcolley@bootheel.net , on Monday, July 13, 1998

LARGENT (LEARGENT), CUMMINS. My great-great grandparents, Andrew Jackson LARGENT (born 1825 in Tn.) married Caliania A. CUMMINS (born 1840 in Tn.) on Nov. 2, 1856 according to Benton Co marriage records. They lived in Big Sandy, Tn. . They had two daughters Margaret Josephine and Sarah acording to 1860 Census. I think A.J. was killed in 1862 (probably at Shiloh) and that Calinia remarried a MALONE (probably a fellow soldier in A.J.'s regimen) and moved to his family home in Missouri. I cannot located either A .J. or Calainia prior to marriage and cannot locate Caliania after 1860. I know that Margaret Josephine was raised in Blodgett, Mo. Any help would be appreciated. - PO Box 1044 Sikeston, Sikeston, MO 63801

BOOHER, MABRY, MAYBERRY posted by bmoss , at Email: bmoss@TWLakes.Net , on Tuesday, July 28, 1998

I'm searching for the parents/siblings of my ggrandfather, Hiram MABRY/MAYBERRY, b. 1826 in TN and d. 10 Jun 1910 in Clay Co., TN. He was married five times with his last wife being my ggrandmother, Sarah Catherine BOOHER. Their children were Mildred "Min", Christopher, Hiram Oatis, Bennie Allen, Dora Alice, Lem Gustus, Henry Benton and Ollie. My MABRY/MAYBERRYS were supposed to have settled in TN from NC. It has been suggested to me that Hiram, Sr.'s father might have been Frederick Mabry who moved from Overton Co. to Benton Co. between 1840-1850 with wife Nancy and children Frederick, Elizabeth, Silas, William and Manerva. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HALL, WHEATLEY posted by Susan , at Email: smkrue@aol.com , on Friday, July 31, 1998

I am seaching for decendants of James Knox Wheatley b. 1831 in Humphreys, now Benton Co. He married Malinda (Mahulda?) Hall in Benton County. They had several children: John Frank , George Smith (Abt. 1866), Alexandre or Alexandra (abt 1868), and possibly Duncan and Matt. The 1880 Benton County census lists Alexandre as a son.. but other places refer to this child as Alexandra. I am looking for any information on this family. Thanks
