November Term 1843

 

State of Tennessee, Benton County, Nov. Term 1843

At a County Court began and held for the County of Benton at the Court house in the town of Camden on the first Monday in November it being the 6th day of said Month in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred & forty three and Sixty eight year of American Independence, there being present and presiding on the bench the worshipfuls, Esqrs. E.Perkins, Chairman, D.P. Hudson and Nathan Williams.

The Clerk of this County present a settlement Prorata Made with Jane Pippin Administratrix of the estate of John Pippin deceased which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Henry Durgin be appointed overseer of the road in room of James Marchbanks to work from the Kirkman's ferry road to Cypress Creek and that the following hands shall work under said Durgin (viz) Berry Harris, Hyram Y. Little, Stephen Marchbanks, Alford Burn, George Thomason, William Davidson, James Marchbanks and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Durgin on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Roland Rushing be appointed overseer of the Paris road in room of James Hansil and that the following hands work under said Rushing on said road (viz) Reubin D. Beasley, J. C. Latimer, James Hansel, John McGill, Thos. McGill, Jr., John Pearce, A. D. Pearce, Abner Smally and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Rushing on said road which is established in the 1st Class.

Nove. Term 1843

On Motion of Henry W. Davis who Made oath in due form of law and together with him Josiah T. Florence his Security who entered into and acknowledged his bond in the penal sum of one thousand dollars conditioned for the faithful performance of the said Henry W. Davis as administrator of the estate of Juda Davis dec.  It is ordered by the Court that Henry W. Davis have letters of Administration upon said estate to be Made out in due form of law when required.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that John M. Browning be appointed overseer of the Paris road to work from the forks of the road east of Willis Rushing's to the four Mile post and that the following hands shall work under said Browning on said road (viz) John Bell, James Bell, Charles Bell, A.J. Browning, J.R. Browning, Isaac Ballard, Alford Ballard, Geo. W. Ballard, James H. Holmes, Mathew Hefner, Berry Whitley, James Alston, Markham, E. D. Whitly, James Morris and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Browning on said road which is established in the 1st Class.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that William Wiseman and Oliver Armor work under Brown Bridges as overseer of the road and that John H. Williams & William Stewart work under Hudson Taylor as overseer of the road.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that James Holland be appointed overseer of the road to work from Lilly Crocker's to the Creek the other side of Samuel Pearce's and that the following hands shall work under said Holland (viz) Littleberry Pearce, Darling Pearce, Thos. Kee, Blanks, John Rouse, F. W. Pearce and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Holland on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.

Nov. Term 1843

On Motion of Samuel B. Pearce who Made oath in due form of law and together with him James Allen and Lilly Crooker his securities who entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penal sum of three thousand dollars conditioned for the faithful performance and of the said Samuel B. Pearce as administrator of the estate of John Morris deceased.  It is therefore ordered by the Court that he have letters of administration on said estate to be Made out in due form of law when required.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Green Flowers, James Allen and Wm. M. McAuley be appointed commissioners to lay off and set apart a sufficiency of provision to serve the widow and family of John Morris deceased for one year that that they Make report to the next term of this Court.

Court then adjourned until Court in Course.
