June Term 1846

 

State of Tennessee, Benton County, June Term 1846

At a County Court began and held for the County of Benton at the Courthouse in the Town of Camden on the first Monday in June.  It being the first day of said Month in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six and 70th year of American Independence.  There being present and presiding on the bench the worshipfuls, Esqrs,; (to wit) E. Perkins, Nathan Williams and J.K. Thomas.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Bryant C. Morgan be appointed overseer of the road in room of Allen Williams to work from Cane Creed to Big Cypress Creek, hands as follows; Kerney C. Mitchell, Matin G. Ford, Littlebury Williams, Greenbury Williams, Wm. S. Hyatt, William Thompson and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Morgan on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.

Issued June 2nd.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Berry Melton be appointed overseer of the road to work from David W. Benton, Joab Tew, John P. Benton, James J. Farmer, William Parker, Calvin Parker, Wiley Parker, William Berry, John Berry, L.H. Grissom and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Melton on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.

Issued June 2nd.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Wm. A. Steele and hands that may reside there and all other hands on the branch above said Steel’s and Spartan Bruce shall work under Wm. A. Hudson as overseer of the road in addition to his former hands.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Samuel Presson be appointed overseer of the road in room of William Greer to work from Lewis Cross’ to the 1½ Mile tree, hands as follows; John Watson, William Greer, Wm. Bonds, Freeman Presson, Wm. P. Thornton, Hudson Taylor, Joseph Pickler, Lewis Cross, John Davenport, William Stewart, J.H. Williams, Thomas Higdon, Lewis Roswell and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Presson on said road which is established in the 1st Class.

June Term 1846.

The Court then proceeded to appoint a jury to serve at the next term of the Circuit Court to be held for the County of Benton at the Courthouse in the Town of Camden on the 2nd Monday in September next.  Whereupon the following persons were appointed (to wit):

1st District – James White, John Gossett                                                                                   2ndDistrict – Nathan Williams, David M. Burkett                                                                  3rd District – Pleasant Mullinix, James Wyly, William Balcam.                                               4th District – John Davidson, Wm. W. McAuley, Albert B. Aden                                               5th District – James Sykes, Berry W. Wheatly, Robert Holmes, Jonathan C. Latimer         6th District – Hezekiah Greer, A.C. Presson, James K. Nance                                              7th District – David W. Benton, Charles J. Wheatly, Etheldred Melton.                             8th District – Wm. Warmack, Robert Rushing and Sterling Brewer.                                            9th District – James McDaniel, Arthur Pitt and Albert G. Holt

officer to attend said Court.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Kennith Reddick be appointed overseer of the road to work from the forks of the road this side Ramble Creek to Edward Lindsey’s, hands as follows; Edward Spain, John G. Allen, Edmond Brewer, Ezekiel McBride, Neil McNeil, John Reynolds, John Melton, Riley Pearce, Samuel Brewer, Lewis Holland, William Holland, Calvin B. Reddick, Ansil Herndon, Nicholas Brewer, Jr., O.D. Reddick and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Reddick on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.

Issued June 2nd.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that A.J. Barnett be appointed overseer of the road in room of John Johnson to work from Hubbs’ Ferry to the forks of the road Near Mrs. Medlock’s, hands as follows; Thomas Carr, M.C. Barnett, Sam Martin, Eligah Wood, Monroe Wood, George Wood, A.J. Johnston, Meredith Johnson, William Whitington and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Barnett on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.

Issued June 2nd.

On Motion of Alfred R. Wesson who Made oath according to law and together with him Benjamin Harrison & John Harrison his securities who appeared in open Court and entered into and acknowledged the due execution of their bond in the penal sum of Seven hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs.  Whereupon it is ordered by the Court that he have letters of Administration upon the estate of Mathew McDaniel deceased to be Made out in due form of law when required.

  June Term 1846

The Clerk of this Court presented a settlement Made with Anderson Lashlee, Administrator of the estate of J.L. Williams, deceased which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that John Davenport be appointed overseer of the road in room of James Cowell to work from the Two Mile to 13 Mile Tree, hands as follows:  Henry Roswell, Wm. Presson, James Cowell, William Wiseman, Joseph Cowell, Jr., Mathew Presson and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Davenport on said road which is established in the 1st Class.

Issued June 1st.

Court then adjourned wuntil Court in Course.
