Obituary – Carver, Reuben Gwyn, 2006

Reuben Gwyn Carver, 83, Oak Ridge, died Saturday Feb. 18, 2006, at Methodist Medical Center.

Born June 22, 1922, in Old Fort, Tenn., to Reuben O. and Vyrtle Ray Carver, both now deceased.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a United States Army, World War II Veteran.

He retired March 31, 1984, after 33 years with the nuclear division of ORNL.

Mr. Carver enjoyed ballroom, square, and country western dancing. He was a coin collector as well as a handyman.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by: First wife, Juanita Newman Carver; second wife Polly Harris Carver; brother, Millard K. Carver; sister, Lavada C. Beavers.

Survivors: Sons, Reuben Gwyn Carver Jr. (Rudy) his wife Elizabeth S. (Ginger) of Phoenix, Ariz., Henry D. Carver and wife Clara of Knoxville; daughter, Patricia C. Griffing and husband Jack of Charleston, S.C.; sister, Raydean Witt Clevenger of Knoxville; grandchildren, Sean Carver of Derby, Kan., Warren Carver of CA; Timothy Carver of Knoxville, Ben Carver of Phoenix, Ariz., and Michele Claycamp of Phoenix, Ariz.; several great-grandchildren; step-son, Robert Harris; step-daughters, Rowena Harris, Cynthia Craven, Diane Hampton and Suzanne Gray.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, in the Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Steve McDonald and Rudy Carver officiating.

The interment followed the service at Lynch Bethel Cemetery in Karns.

The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at the funeral home.
