Obituary of James T. Sawyer, 2000:

James T. Sawyer, age 68 – Peach Orchard Road, Clinton, passed away Sunday, March 5 at his residence.

Mr. Sawyer retired as Norris Chief of Police. He was a member of Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers Association, Fraternal Order of Police and Chief of Police Association. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors: wife of 50 years, Wanda Sawyer of Clinton; daughters and son-in-laws, Kathy Sawyer of Knoxville; Anita and Joel Hollander of Tulsa, OK; sons and daughter-in-laws, Eddie and Beverly Sawyer of Knoxville; Doug and Stephanie Sawyer of Andersonville; Sammy and Sawn Sawyer of Knoxville; Tommy and Dwaynia Sawyer of Clinton; Michael Sawyer of Nashville; parents, Tom and Edna Sawyer of Clinton; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Ada Woods of Clinton; brothers, Ralph Sawyer, Billy Sawyer, both of Clinton; Lloyd Sawyer of Nashville and Howard Sawyer of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends 6-8 pm Monday, March 6, 2000 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton. Funeral service was 8 pm Monday, March 6, 2000 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Keith officiating.

Interment was 10:30 am Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at Norris Memorial Garden. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
