Obituary of Axie Smith, 1980:

Ex-mill employee dies at 65.  Mrs. Axie Smith, 65, of 475 Jarnigan St., Clinton, died at 7:10 p.m. July 9 at her home.  She had been in ill health for several years.

She was an employee of Magnet Mills, Inc., several years ago.  Mrs. Smith was a member of Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church and enjoyed flower gardening.

She was a native of Anderson County.

Survivors include her husband, Jess L. Smith; a daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Ruby) Mack of Clinton; two sons, George Smith of Clinton and Riley Smith of South Clinton; her mother, Mrs. Roxie Hensley, Clinton; four daughters, Mrs. Charlie (Arvie) Smith and Mrs. John L. (Rena) Smith, Jr. of Clinton Rt. 7, Mrs. Willie (Maggie) Bumgardner and Mrs. Don (Wilma) Ambrose of Clinton; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Cox Funeral Home chapel in Lake City with the Rev. Bedford Bullock and the Rev. Clyde Daugherty officiating.  Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery.
